hi guys, soo many places to put this question!! lol
i honestly didnt know where to start searching, as the search is down, and ive been searching on the web, only to find contradictory conclusions to my answer, where ever i went.

simple question really, am i vrt expempt?
ive owned the car nearly 9 months. since beginning of feb.
was using it on a daily basis, until i decided to move to ireland to live with my girlfriend roughly about a month ago, where i cancelled my insurance, as i didnt have the full funds to bring the car over with me.
im working in ireland now, and hoping to bring the car over with me. so i can travel back and forth to work without having to ask my g/f parents.

the car is a nissan 200sx 95 s14, its still taxed, however not insured, as my insurance would only issue me a 7 day card to bring the car to ireland, thereafter i would have had to bring it back into uk soils. and due to them being very awkward, i decided to cut my losses, and drop them.

ive read the definitive guide to importing from uk, on the forums here, seems simple enough, but i dont particularly fancy being charged 721€ when i get here, to VRT it. if i have to pay that, then i will, but for the minute, im trying not to.

so technically all i basically need to do is
ring quinn direct, and get them to insure me in the uk, till i get it registered into ireland.
register the car out of the UK and into ireland, (DVLA)
register with the VRO, to get plates etc. then with this, get tax.
Ring Quinn with the new plates.
And book it in for an NCT as soon as it gets registered completely.
is that it? or am i missing a crucial part....?

if you've owned it for 6 months while living in the uk, you're exempt from paying vrt (have heard that you pay it, but then get a rebate). i'm doing the same as you this week. brought my car over last wed but it's still insured. the tax ran out at the end of sept though. if you go to the revenue office in tallaght or santry they'll give you a list of everything you need to get in order. but make sure they give you the form for vrt exempt!!
