Didn't know whether to post in "Travel & Holidays", or here - but it's a bit specialized. Anyhoo - just back from two weeks in Puerto Del Carmen, and I rented a bike for a week. The cost was 70Euro for this grade of bike - the top grade road/mtb bikes cost 130Euro.
The temp. was 30degs, which was about 8/10 degs too hot for my liking. However, there were a lot of serious cyclists out on the roads.
There's a convenient bike path skirts the airport perimeter, on the seaward side, between Matagorda and Playa Honda, if you're heading towards Arrecife.
Hopefully, I'll get back down, in a couple of months, during the cooler weather, and maybe get some longer rides in. :)

I'm heading there in November and looking to get a cheeky spin or two in - can you remember where you rented your bike? Did you go looking on MapMyRide for routes or did you just go exploring with a map?

    Thanks!

"Renner Bikes" - Avenida de Las Playas, C.C. Maritimo 25 Alto. It's on the seafront, in Puerto Del Carmen. The shop is on the upper level, but you will see bikes hanging on racks, visible from street level.
I had already bought a road map, locally, but he gave me one as part of the rental. He gave me suggestions for 25K/50K/and 75K rides, but I knew the heat(and my fitness level) wouldn't let me do the longer rides. However, I DID do Costa Teguise return, and Yaiza return, as well as several trips into Arrecife.
There is a cliff-top path that runs from PDC old town towards Puerto Calero, and possibly beyond to Playa Quemada. :)

I was there this summer and got a bike out from this place on 2 different days.
    http://www.mountainbike-lanzarote.com/lanzarote-puerto-del-carmen-landkarte.html

He's a sound bloke (sounds Dutch) and will fit whatever pedals you want to the bike. He's got Trek and Merida road bikes (I think) and both seemed good. He was able to give good advice on a different spins. The road up to the Fire Mountain towards Yaiza is a nice hilly route, but bring plenty of water. I underestimated and wasn't allowed to bring the bike into a shop to buy more. There were dodgy looking fellas outside so I had to cut it a bit short that day. I took the road down to the town past the airport the other day - nice for a bit of plane spotting :)

BTW, it's AMAZING what it's like to cycle on smooth roads!

hey guys can I ask a question ??

When you are out early morning no traffic just a few fellow convicts of the road clear blue sky's, sun rising, smooth roads, fantastic scenery feeling like a pro on a training spin........have you ever thought to yourself ......... What else would I prefer to be doing now ????

I know I have. and the answer is the same........... everytime.

Oh and Funkyda I tell ya one of the summers I was over there first time actually I very nearly got derailed off the boardwalk at the back of the airport when you turn left not by the low flying aircraft coming in to land but the .........BLOODY NUDIST COLONY they were everywhere (ave age 60-100)

If ya email Renner about what kind of bike you require, he'll keep a good one for you. He can be v busy at some times of the year. Some great cycling in Lanza, the roads have improved dramatically over the past 8 years. If cycling get out early in the morning as the wind picks up as the day hots up.

I was there and used Lanzorote-Bikes. The dude is german and collected and delivered the bikes for us. For 6 days rental it only cost something like 100 euro.

However I dont think I would go back to Lanzarote. I was there in July and the heat and wind were unreal (mainly the wind). I have never been anywhere so windy. The first cycle on the first day was demoralising - talking 10kmph into the wind for the first hour.

Swimming was good though - Swam up and down the beach in Puerto Del Carmen without a wetsuit. Water was really warm.

Running was good too - either up and down the prominade in Puerto Del Carment or on one of the many trails around or along the cliff tops.
