Nose job

I've been contemplating getting a nose job for a while but put it out of my head until this week when I heard 2 girls making fun of it. I actually don't think I'm a bad looking girl but my nose was bashed in a few years ago playing sport and hasn't been the same since (has a bump and is slightly big for my face). I'm just wondering about other people's experiences of getting it done eg where they got it done, how much it cost, if they regret it etc. I've heard a few stories of it all going wrong and I don't want to make it any worse!

Firstly, they are a pair of idiots.

Does it really bother you? does it dent your confidence? If the answer to both of those is yes, and you can afford it - well then why not. If you pick a reputable place to have the procedure done, then I'm sure it will work out fine.

Why not talk to your GP first, get his/her opinion, and see if they'll refer you to a surgeon for a more specialised opinion? After that, you should have a much better idea of whether you should go for it, what it might cost, and what options you might have.

Even if you have to pay for the consultation, it's a small investment in such an important decision.

I think it is great you offered the alternative here. But I have to say, a GP cannot nor will not, make a decision for a patient. Cosmetic surgery, is a personal choice. If you get in touch with a company you've researched and understand to be reputable - ask for a consultation.

They are very used to men and women coming in with something they are unhappy about, and they will give you the best advice possible. They will do a full assessment, will make you feel very comfortable about things.

The bottom line is, how much does it matter to you? You are the one that makes the choices, not a GP or some catty little cows.

You're right, I didn't think of that. I just figured that since the OP has actually had a nose injury in the past it might be useful.

    HI Op,
Big decision time, take it slow and just because a doctor is qualified doesnt mean he is a good surgeon. Its a bit like trades men they survive on their reputations. Like the others said do your research. Work with your GP.
The only reason you should avoid cosmetic surgery is if there is no other way around it. Cosmetic surgery is abused for unnecessary frivolities like boob jobs, liposuction, nose jobs and ties up resources that should be put to better use.

If you have vanity problems like you want a nose like Britney Spears or a chin like Brad Pitt, that is vanity. Then be grateful for what god gave you, get over your self/go to the gym and lose 3 stone/buy a wonder bra/get councelling, whatever. If you have Port wine stains/had disfigurement through an accident or some fault by an act of god then you have the right to consider it. You are justified in getting it done.

And most of all work with professionals, loads of cowboys out there so be careful.

    i had one
i was overseas at the time,
    the procedure is very routine
you'll experience a little discomfort after, not too bad though
all scarring will be in the nostrils, there will be a slight smell from the scars for up to 3 weeks
after the operation it will take 4 - 5 months for all swelling to completely go, though after 6 weeks the swelling will be 80% gone
if you put on the tears, really play it up to your G.P., say how your nose is ruining your life, people make fun of you, you can't get a man, etc , etc , you might be able to get rhinoplasty on the health service.
if you go private, here maybe 4,000 - 5,000
    overseas, thailand, 2,000
    india 1,000
    there are lots of options
    good luck

    Hi OP,

I've had this done, and let me tell you, it was best decision of my life. I had been taunted because of my nose in th past, and while people tell you to ignore it, it's hard and it really hurts - people can be very thick. Once you get a complex about something, I really don't think you can be happy unless you do something about it.

I got mine done in ACS - incidentally I think they've closed down now! But they were brilliant in there, consultation was free, and surgeon was very thorough when he was explaining the whole procedure. Maybe somewhere like the Harley group, which seems to have a pretty good rep.

I took off 2 weeks from work, but tbh, I wish I'd taken 3 - although the bruising had disappeared after 2, there was still a tightness around the area - which meant whenever I smiled, it looked quite weird! so I'd recommend 3wks recovery time at least.

Price wise, mine was 5k - pretty pricey I guess, that was 2 years ago. But very much worth it - I'm so happy with the result!

Good luck with whatever you decide to to with it, PM me if you want to know anything else :)

Hi there! I had a nose job done in 1998 and it was the best thing I ever spent money on.It changed my life and my self confidence massively. I had a hump in the middle of my nose and felt very unsexy/unfeminie, it just ddidn't suit me and was too big for my face. I had it done when I was 21 and am so glad I did it. I went to advanced cosmetic surgery and had Terry Kerins as a surgeon, he was great. I don't think he's around anymore though. The operation is very straight foward, afterwads the splint was a bit uncomfortable but nothing major. I didn't recognise myself when the split came off after a week and my pretty straight nose was revealed!! I ahd been taking arnica tablets- available from health shops- to minimise the bruising around my eyes and that was all gone in a very short time. I began to dress for my figure and changed my hair colour, no-one believes that's me now in old photos, people presume that I've always been confident and good-looking-yes I can say that now!-I had been very shy and self conscious, feeling like a "butter face"....If a person has crooked teeth society doesn't think anything strange abaout wearing braces...there is nothing you can do if your nose is big/misshapen/bumpy...no diet/clothes/makeup will make a difference. Surgery for me was the solution and I am thankful as to how it transformed my life for the better! Good luck with what you decide OP,hope all turns out well for you.

Whatever you do OP, dont make this decision based without thinking it through.

Make sure you want it for the right reasons not because two bitches were talking sh1t, your nose might be fine and it maybe they're jealous and clung to a slight imperfection to bring you down to their level. Dont make such a big decision on this based on what those 2 girls said.

What age are you OP? Peoples faces change when they are young so it might be too early to make the decision and if you give it time you may feel differently about it.

I definitely agree you should do it, after having the correct research of course and speaking to people who've had it done.

There is nothing wrong with plastic surgery to correct something that's bothering you.

If its bothering you then go for it.If its something that you are sure you want and you think will make you happier/more confident then its your decision.Dont mind all these delusional fairies that live in happyland that tell you youre beautiful the way you are.
The world is a mean place and unfortunately alot of impressions/decsions/opinions are based on a person apperance.
If it would increase your confidence ,which plastic surgery has done for millions around the world, then have it done.

I dont condone outer beauty worshipping at all but a slight corection being your nose could improve your life drastically and boost confidence for life.

^^^ Gotta agree with that. The reality is appearances do matter and the 'Beauty is on the Inside' idea while nice is way over idealistic.

But more importantly it matters to you OP and thats the only person you need to consider here.

For some bizarre reason people seem to attempt to attach a stigma to plastic surgery which I don't understand. It has its place.

What?! This is rubbish. OP and anyone else can get WHATEVER they want to THEIR face/ body. "God given/ act of God?" What's God got to do with anything. What a small minded, judgemental post. "Justified"? To who exactly? Sad critical people that might gossip behind someone's back becase they have no life of their own and are probably the same pathetic people that were slagging in the first place and ebbed away at the OPs confidence. This attitude makes me so mad!!

To OP, I've researched this myself. It''ll set you back 4 - 7k depending on where you go. Cosmetic surgery is not regulated here yet, so there are many many cowboys and you can basically do jack if they botch it. Now, there are a few self regulating surgeons that work in hospitals and also have a private practice doing a specialist field of cosmetic surgery.
Some of these being Dr. Michael Earley (Mater Private) - he worked on my friend's nose and Dr. Patricia Eadie.

There are two methods - open and closed. And they are carried out either under full anaesthtic or by twilight method (awake but morphined up).
Healing time is about 6 - 8 weeks, swelling is mostly down by 6 months but will take up to a year and your nose will keep changing so keep optimistic if it's not perfect initially.

A reputable suregon will need a letter from a GP. Best bet would be to go to an ENT doc and they can tell you if you need a deviated septum fixed or have any medical reason to get the job carried out. You might then be able to get health insurance back on it.
