Just thought I'd let you know, got flights for our family of five to Orlando next June for €1276, via Gatwick with Virgin. When you click on the aerlingus one stop and select the flight the price reduces dramatically. I was given this tip on another forum, so thought I'd pass it on! Great deals on accommodation there too, I was all set to book the ferry to France (€1689) but couldn't resist at that price!

Hi there, what dates in June did you use - I've tried a few different ones but getting same price as you but only three of us hoping to travel.

Was it €1689 just for the ferry!!! All being well we will be a family of 5 next June and had thoughts of going to France as I have enough clubcard cash to get a holiday with Siblu... but not paying that for the ferry!!

We had looked at Orlando last April and had aer lingus flight for approx €950 for 4 of us but decided against it in end as advice was it would be too hot and not much to do for our youngest - 1 & 3 yrs.

    Anyway, enjoy the trip!

Wow - thats a fantastic tip ... Just tried the exact same dates for a family of 4 and it worked out at €1347 for flights ... if you then use Hotwire to book a hotel , you can get a 3.5star Int Dr (Seaworld location) for $1032 (about €700) .. 2 weeks for 4 people in Orlando for €2000 approx is unbelievable ...

Yup that was just for the ferry, I was going to use tesco vouchers for siblu too. the ferry was cheap enough in august. Well if you call €1265 cheap! This is Brittany Ferries by the way, don't think IF have their 2010 prices online yet.

Got it! I was on the expedia.co.uk website - big price difference betwen the Irish and UK sites. We'd already decided not to go to Florida due to cost - we're having a hasty re-think based on these prices. Thanks OP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭jpfahy

Price is much dearer now on the UK site, over 2 grand sterling, maybe it's their cookies

I've just priced the same dates for my aunt and got a price of 740 for two adults, I was looking on alpharooms last night, fab prices! Glad to hear you were happy with the service.

Go for it holly! It was expedia.ie we booked on. Priced aerlingus last night for same dates and it was 2800!

I have been trying that but am not getting any change when I click on Aer Lingus 1 stop. The proce for a family of 5 is staying at €2,343.59 for Virgin.

I didnt see any reference to other airlines - AerLingus one stop came up anyway.

    Am I doing something wrong?

Did you select the flight? The price should change after you select them, it tells you they got a better price. HTH.

    Arrive 11:25
    Depart 13:00

Surely the time between the 2 flights is too tight?
Okay it's the same Terminal but only 1 hr 35 mins to get to another check in desk with bags etc, what if the AL flight over is delayed?
    Same coming back.
Does that include taxes as well?

Yes it includes taxes. I was a bit concerned about the flights but a few people have done and said it was fine, just have to hope aerlingus won't be delayed!

Edited to add I think the bags go straight through?

    +1 (M+W+2 teenage children) Just paid E1420. :D

Gone up a bit but what the hell!!!. Murt the last of the big spenders .

I'm usually a last minute sort of person so I feel strange booking so far in advance.

All I have to worry about now is that the Aer lingus plane is not late and that the Junior Cert is finished in time.

Now, I think I'll go on the lookout for a cheap Med break for a week at the end of Aug, otherwise I'll feel like I never had a holiday by the end of the summer.

Access card will soon start to groan.

    Thanks OP

Great, glad you got a good deal, we're jsut trying to decide on accommodation, so many to choose from it's unreal.

Wish I could manage a week in august too, lucky you!

We are fixed to July dates (approx 24th July --> 14th August) and cannot get anywhere near the June price for DUB to MCO.

Anyone know if there's a period between now and 2010 where the July/August prices might see a dip?

    Unlikely I would suspect.

Yes it's per person, not sure how it compares to aerlingus for those dates, it's double what it is in june. I checked our flights again last night and they're still cheap:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭DaDa

Thanks for checking redmissb. It's still on the pricey side alright.

I've found that American Airlines is the lowest so far:

Depart DUB - ORD - MCO: Saturday, July 24
Return MCO - ORD - DUB: Saturday, August 14
    €2,548.01 (including taxes)
    4 passengers + 1 Infant

I'm not sure if I should grab it now or wait to see if Aer Lingus and/or Expedia come down.

I am looking to go to orlando but I want to add new york for a few days on the way back, is there any way to get a deal price on this? You seem to get a discount when booking flight and hotel together so dont want to book all seperatley

Slunk I think Delta stop over in NY? Might be worth checking them out.

Dada its tough decision! Can I ask if you get a seat for your infant? I didn't but I;ve read that most people get seats now from a safety point of view, don't know if this is true or not? I called expedia and they won't change the booking for me.

We've travelled to U.S. west coast about 7 times when our kid(s) were infants. We never got them seats until they were about 18+ months.

You must hold any child <2 using extended lap belt, even if you have bought them a seat ...for take-off & landing only.

Having said that... it is nice to have the extra seat for when they need to nap/sleep (in case you do not get bulk head cot).

Also.. here's one for you... couple of years ago we travelled with 2 kids (one was 18 months) and we bought the 18 month old a seat (for all our comforts!). We also got the bulk head and looked forward to having the cot there too. BUT... since we had purchased a seat for her we were NOT allowed a cot, even though she was under 2 and we had the 4 bulk head seats. That was British Airways out of LHR to SFO.

Not sure I get the safety point of view.

How many adults/kids in your party?

Lads if you're booking on expedia i'd suggest joining bethrifty.ie, you'll get up to 10% cashback which on some of these hols would be a few hundred yo yo. Youll get cashback on hotels as well with expedia, alpharooms, hotels.com and all the big players in their travel section. It'll take a few weeks to get the cashback, but it's def worth doing!
