Excel 2003 Sort Issue

I have a Excel 2003 spreadsheet listing a whole heap of TV programmes but they are not listed alphabetically.

I want to sort them alphabetically which is not a problem in itself except for the fact that my layout is such that every second (2nd) row is empty (by choice) & I want to keep it that way if possible.

Everytime I do a sort it sorts them in alphabetical order but not with the empty row between each one, it puts them all together & leaves all the empty rows in a heap at the end of the file :(

How can I sort them while keeping the "Every second" row blank?

one alternative to having every second row blank might be to adjust the height of the rows, so that there is still a space, but no empty rows

    format->row->height

Appreciate the reply Ghost, but this is the format they are in & I want to retain that. If it can't be sorted I'll just leave it as is :)

Excel doesnt work well with blank cells.

The only alternative is to repeat the text in the row above and set the text color to the same as the cell, i.e grey.

    Try this:
    Assuming you have column 'headers'
Select a blank column eg: P
    1. Write odd/even in P1.
    2. Enter a in P2
    3. Enter b in P3
    4. Enter a in P4
    5. Enter b in P5
    6. Select P2 to P5
    7. Drag down P5's fill handle which will complete the a,b,a,b pattern.
    8. Data | Filter | Autofilter.
    9. Select the drop down arrow in cell P1 and select either a or b from the dropdown list (select the ones where Data is).
    10. Now do your sort on 'titles'.
    11. Turn off the autofilter.

Don't take shortcuts for steps 2-5, you need to put 4 values in for excel to repeat the pattern.

Slelect Column With Titles in it (A?)

    Choose Data/Filter.

    Then Hide blanks.

Highlight data to be sorted. Row 2(?) to Row?

    Sort.

    Remove Filter.

    Worked for me.
