    Hi All,

As we stand, we have won the war on the reintroduction of third level fees. Now as I say this its not set in stone as the Green party are voting on the future of the goverment and the program of goverment. We have the promise that third level fees will not be introduced.

Section seven as per the 43 page doc for goverment is as follows:

    "Higher Education

    · Conscious of the economic pressures on parents today, this Government will not proceed with any new scheme of student contribution for Third Level education.

    · We will develop Higher Education Strategy to deliver a longer term vision and shorter term policy objectives for the sector.

    · Examine the potential for greater co-operation and/or amalgamations between institutions to enhance system-wide performance reflecting the current economic reality

    · Establish a new statutory agency to carry out the current functions of NQAI, HETAC and FETAC as well taking on responsibility for the external quality assurance of universities. Related functions of the NUI are also being examined in this regard."

This is it folks and lets hope that the greens pass this tonight or else we will be looking at an election with in a few weeks. That would mean that we would have alot of lobbing to do with the FG and Labour partys.

    Fingers crossed time folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Regards,

So you haven't actually won the war on student fees. You've only won the war if this thing gets passed.

Well actually it got passed but we were in this position thanks to all the lobbing of the goverment and the TDs etc. Well done to every single DIT student that came out on the streets of this country.

Well done to every student across the country to keep the faith on this we have to keep the pressure up now and get all the DIT services back up and running. The battle begins again on Monday morning.

The war is won tonight tho. Enjoy it, it feels good tonight.

    Regards,

    Sean Campbell.
    Happy for once this year!!!!!!!

Wait... so the war is over, but the battle is not. How does that work? Surely it's the other way around.

Well done sean and everyone who worked on the No to Fees campaign. I know lots of first years/leaving certs who were getting worried about the cost of fees/loans next year.

So they won't be re-introducing college fees next year? Cool.
Now if only somebody in the wonderful Irish government could kindly tell me what the current €1500 registration fee will be come September 2010...

Well as things go and I dont want to get drawn into how wars and battles happen but there are loads of battles within the a war! and we just won the war but there are a few battles left.

Reg fee is still on the cards for next year to rise to €3000 and how can students be happy with that. I am not so, the battle goes on folks!!!

    Regards,

    Sean Campbell.

Sneaky bastards. They know that the majority of dosh can be made from
existing 3rd level students. Despite efforts, it's looks like a lost cause:(

If that is the case, the government is basically re-introducing fees but through this "registration fee"! How can they justify offering so called "free" third level education when you have to pay a registration fee almost equal to what you would be paying anyways. War lost i'd say!

It should also be noted that the registration fee is not tax deductable, where as official college fees are! So the government are actaully making more off us!

Thank god i'm in my final year! :D
