oil line sensor thing

i have a thing on the stoves oil feed, it in the shape of a filer but has a long thin copper pipe running from it to a copper penis shaped thing


i am asuming the unit is a diaphram switch and the penis is a temperature sensor

the sensor is sitting on the ground beside the stove, should it be attached to the stove in some way so that as the stove gets hotter the switch can adjust the oil flow

Sounds like a remote Acting Fire Valve. They are used to cut the supply of oil to a stove/oil fired range if temperatures exceed a certain Temp. It just stops the oil, nothing to do with reducing the flow.

Check the manual if there is a hole near where the burner is for it to go into.

On my range there was a rubber bung to push it through and it's sitting near the burner.
