I have a Hotpoint BU72 built in oven and grill unit. Its three years old now. After some time cooking with the grill, the unit ceases to function. The Control panel which is on the top of the unit gets very hot and a tea towel has to be used to adjust the knobs on the cooker. The oven also ceases to function. Once cool, the unit can be used again. Has anyone ever heard of an issue like this before?

    Thanks

Make sure that the grill is open door grilling. If it is designed to grill with door closed and you have it open then the knobs will overheat.you can check in manual.

If that is not the problem then you more then likely have a problem with your cooling fan cut in thermostat
