I'd take the advice and back up any important data to a different drive, wouldn't use windows backup, just a straight copy. Then either run some tests on the drive or get a new drive.

There is nothing I need to back on it

The laptop was recently sent for repair and seems to be all ballesed up

ive no idea if the error is real but its always a good idea to backup important files anyway!

and i would download these tools here to check the drive.

    Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows:
    http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=703&sid=3&lang=en

a smart test could show if there are any problems.

(is it a 320 gb drive?)

looks like win 7. if you go to performance monitor, you can run systems diagnostics, then look at the report when finished, that will check the s.m.a.r.t status as well, which is probably what gave you the error, as its the only thing that indicates a possible future disk failure

if it was win 7, would the show desktop rectangle thingy not be beside the clock?

re my post earlier, i would run a smart status, and quick test

since it failed the tests then the drive could be bad...

if it is then you will need a new drive but i wouldnt pay for one stright away as it could be under warranty (see attached picture)

Laptop is less than 3 years old so should be within warranty

Laptop had issues and sent it back to dell. Was working fine before then.

    Real pissed off with Dell!
