Problem with Stovax Riva 40

    Hi

I wonder if any of you have had a Stovax Riva 40 multi-fuel stove installed? I had one installed on Monday and I am not happy with it. I have lit it twice and on both occasions it emitted fumes and smoke into my room. The smoke alarm was going off and I had to open all doors and windows. The fitter came back to check it out and said that it is fitted perfectly and the flue in the chimney is perfect. He cannot explain why it is happening. The books says that sometimes odours are emitted when first lit. I am wondering if any of you have had a similar problem?

I am going to try it again today and see how I get on but I would love to hear from any of you who have recently fitted a riva 40.

    Thank you
    Bella:confused:

Ours is in about a year now and yeah for the first couple of weeks there was an odour when the fire was lit. It's as if the paint on the box was drying or something. It definitely went away. Ensure your room is well ventilated though when this happens. When I read that odours happen at the start, I underestimated the extent of them.

If the fitter says it's all ok, then stick with it. Ensure you follow the instructions as written and ensure you close the door when it's up and running. The only time smoke from the burning fuel should come out is if you open the door a bit too quickly at the start of the fire or something like that.

    Hope this helps!

Oh and we've found that the best fuel for heat and that doesn't burn so quickly are those compressed wood logs.

Yeah they do emmit fumes for a while when new.

Ecobrite is another great fuel for stoves , its a smokless coal for stoves and ranges and throws out seriuos heat.

Hi BellaP. Have you resolved your fume problems? I have recently had a Stovex Riva 40 fitted and are experiencing the same problems with fumes entering the room. Only seems to happen when the air wash control is reduced from its fully open position. At the moment, i'm keeping the air wash control set at maximum (or near maximum) and controlling the output using the primary air control (usually set at 50% when starting up and then gradually closing when the fire is well away) and only loading a small amount of wood in. It's a bit of a pain doing this because of the need to keep opening the lower door to adjust the primary air control.

Hi, to add to this forum , i have had the Riva for 2 seasons now and can advise it is important to get the fire going with the door slightly ajar for 30 mins min to get the chimney nice and hot and then the fire will draw and you can close up and regulate .
Closing the door too early will lead to fumes coming out of the fire and not up the chimney.
Another pointer, do not run it too hot as the top plate burns out and the robbers want 100 euro to replace it and it is only made of flat plate steel not cast like it should be.
