Job Seekers Allowance

I was recently made redundant well four months ago! I am currently living with my folks but they are emergrating abroad. i am getting job seekers.

I realise I will be able to get my jobseekers still but does anyone know if I will be entitled rent assistance if I am renting a place in Dublin. Even just an amount towards my rent? It would be a room in most likely shared in a house with the owner of the flat/house.

Any help folks?

You must first be put on the local authority housing list and determined to be in need of housing. There is a limit under which your rent must fall based on the area you're living to qualify. Rent supplement is means tested so savings and investments over 5000 will start to eat away at what you're eligible for.

Thanks for your help Xiney - Isn't there some other form of rent help for those unemployed? I think its call rent - something, something different from rent allowance, slightly different name, my mum was saying about it and I think it is not means tested its just for people on JS. any ideas???

nope - there's only one rent allowance scheme and it's means tested.
