Why do they tease?

My housemate's friend told her that he likes me. I'm completely indifferent towards him. He's a really really nice guy, not bad looking and (absolutely loaded).
I just don't feel any attraction towards him but now feel guilty because the girls keep ooh-ing and teasing every time his name comes up in conversation.

If you were me would you give in to them and give him a chance or go with the gut that it would not work and become awkward...

Just tell her your flatemate you're not interested. No point getting guys hopes up in the first place by agreeing to a date when you don't like him and you'll just end up shooting him down a few dates down the road.

No attraction then don't go for it, why would you want to date someone you are not attracted to.
