Although not available yet, delayed mainly down to the fact that apple released another minor update in the form of 3.1.2 .

This one click application promises to jailbreak any device whether 3GS or IPOD touch or Gen1 IPhone with a single executable file.

Based on its predecessor Purplera1n developed by George Hotz a.k.a Geohot
this application promises to provide another seamless method of Jailbreaking the IPhone and allowing installations of Cydia and other Installer Services to the Iphone (Hopefully support tethering)

Additional Information:

Although the dev-team have made available a pwnage utility which supports 3G and 3GS 3.1. This is only available for Pre-Pwn'd devices and no ofb devices running 3.1 or 3.1.2 firmwares. This makes the revelation and aviability of blackra1n critical for anyone who has recently purchased a 3GS out of box with 3.1 preinstalled or accidently upgraded to 3.1 / 3.1.2

Note that due to base band updates that come as part of the 3.1 release you may never be able to unlock the device but jailbreak is still vunerable to blackra1n and upcoming greenpoison JB utils

It is now officially RELEASED ! for all WIndows users (that's a pleasent change)

I have read it is the most simple of jailbreak methods and takes around 1min to complete.
My only question would be does it only jailbreak or does it wipe all your Apps aswell ?

IMPORTANT******
This is only a jailbreak and not a unlock ( allow you to use a different SIM) so if you follow the instructions for Blackra1n and update to 3.1.2 on iTunes (officially) then you will update your baseband also , this will render your unlock useless and you will be stuck with a locked o2 phone.
Fingerscrossed a unlock is coming soon for 3.1.2 , that would be a major victory !

I might add that your existing apps remain untouched and once blackra1n in stalled you can run the blackra1n app and then install the three major installer servers - cydia, rock and icy.

Completes in approx 10 seconds

does this jb maintain even cydia apps and settings from a previous jb......basically when you turn back on your 3gs is it identical but now running on a jb3.1.2

I've downloaded it off the official site and it's not working for me. It just keeps putting the phone into restore. I've tried several times but no joy, can anybody tell me what i'm doing wrong?

If you are using Vista try running in admin mode.

I tried it out earlier on a Windows 7 machine. Worked like a charm.

yeah I have a Vista machine, ran it in admin and still not working. It just keeps doing a restore, whats supposed to happen, should it take long?

Never jailbroke anything from Apple before so I'm pretty apprehensive about this.

Don't know if I should do it or not. I got a 32GB 3GS.

To the person who keeps getting restore mode - apparently you have to run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP.

Right click file -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Tick the "Run this program in..." box -> Select XP -> Apply/OK.

Try that and report back please, I want to see if it works.

If I am currently on 3.0 jailbreak from devteam, is it possible to use Blackra1n to jailbreak to 3.1.2 and still use Ultrasn0w to unlock? Or does Purplera1n also upgrade the baseband with 3.1.2?

I've tried running it in XP mode, still not working and it erased all the contacts on my phone. Might try it on an actual PC running XP.

Just J'broke my 3gs (Irl o2) with this very quickly. Was looking to do a JB for a couple of weeks since my phone appeared to have crashed or something one morning. Wouldn't restart and showed some kind of 'cant mount disk' error after trying Redsnow. Had to let iTunes do an official 3.1 update (the only option!).
Anyhow I let iTunes do a backup from the phone (just in case!) on my iMac and then I did the JB with my Macbook running Vista in Bootcamp using the 'administrator' tip above.

No , No & No . . Blackra1n is purely a jb for 3.1 and 3.1.2 phones , it has no unlock capabilities.
If you upgrade to 3.1 or 3.12 you will also update your baseband which will render your current unlock useless , at present there is no unlock available for anything past 3.01.
Stick with what you have 3.0 ( that's what I'm doing) and never update via iTUnes . Simple!
If you do need to restore due to a phone crash or something then there are other options to restore below the current 3.1.2 . .google!

I've tried runninig in admin mode, XP compat and turned airplane mode on cause i read that might help. No still not working, does anyone know if it's just a problem with the Iphone 3G?

Just got this working on my Iphone 3G. Heres how I did it...

1. Download www.blackra1n.com and put it anywhere on you C: drive.
2. Restart you PC.
3. Run Blackra1n but dont plug in the USB into the PC.
4. Plug in USB.
5. It should go into recovery mode then a few seconds later the George Hotz logo should come up.

At this point it stayed on for ages so I disconnected the phone and turned it off. When I turned it back on I had the Blackra1n icon.
I done this on an XP PC after not having much luck on Vista. I've been at this for a couple of days so I hope this help.

yes, it will affect your existing unlock. Blackra1n jailbreaks a device running 3.1.2 - so if you upgrade to this version via Itunes your going to upgrade your baseband. This means ultrasn0w will no longer work.

Because your currently unlocked, I would google search for custom 3.1.2 ipsw that is already jailbroken. Do a restore in Itunes with this version that way you retain your baseband version and you can still unlock.

Hey thanks but will using custom use wipe my existing unlock. And is it possible to jb my iPhone with unlock and 05.11.07 baseband. And also fuzy band doesn't work for me. Plus how do I enter my bootloader, how do I find my bootloader?thanks

I've an offically unlocked Iphone that i got unlocked from Optus in Australia. Anytime i jailbroke it before using Pwnage tool when i connected the phone to Itunes it would activate and unlock.

Can i still use BlackRa1n even though i am now using 3 Ireland? (Not an official Apple approved carrier)

The BlackRa1n jailbreak will work with the latest 3.1.2 firmware; however, it will not hacktivate your iPhone. This means that if you are not on an official Apple approved carrier BlackRa1n cannot activate it.

Currently i am running 3.1.2 on 3 Ireland.

A couple of questions ..

a.)Your phone is a "factory unlocked" from Australia , correct ?

b.)You are currently running 3.1.2 firmware and using a 3 sim , correct ?


ONLY If your answer is YES to the following questions then do this :

Goto Blackra1n.com
Hit the Icon for your operating system (WIN or MAC)
Download Blackra1n to your desktop .
Make sure iTunes is closed down on your P.C
Double click the Blackra1n.exe on your desktop.
Hit "Make it Rain"
Hook your phone up to the USB port on your P.C
Your phone will begin to Jailbreak.
You should see a picture of GEOHOT on your phone .
You will get a "Jailbreak" complete prompt on your P.C .
Wait for you phone to reboot .
Disconnect from P.C when rebooted .
On phone goto "Blackra1n" app
When it opens download CYDIA .(when connected to wifi)
When CYDIA downloaded go back into Blackra1n app and select "delete balckra1n"

If I update to 3.1.2 can I Jailbreak using Blackrain ? and will I need to re-install apps ?
