Does your club use full or 3/4 difference in singles matchplay?

We always had full difference, so if a 4 plays a 14, the higher guy gets 10 shots on indices 1 to 10.

Only recently been talkin to a few people who were shocked that full difference is given. Which do you guys think is fairest? And what does your club do?

    Singles - Full
Doubles - 3/4 off the lowest man.

Full difference always in singles. Usually giving shots away so would I benefit from it being 3/4 difference but I think that full is the fairest way... so long as people have genuine handicaps (I'd love to see the requirements set at about 8 singles qualifying competitions in the year to keep an active handicap).

Singles - Full: I agree with Licksy, i think it's the fairest way. Anything else would be an advantage to the lower handicapper. Having just won my own club matchplay last weekend, proof if it were needed that full difference doesn't give higher handicappers an advantage.

    Doubles: Half the combined difference.

What do you mean by half the combined difference in doubles?

    Well done man!

I'm in our final too - with full difference. So I guess that settles that ;)

I shot an 83 in the qualifying round to miss by a mile so nothing is settled I tell ya!
Lost the final a couple of years ago giving 8 shots I think...

Class! Best of luck with it.

Won mine down the 20th Was only giving away 1 stroke in the final which was nice. Gave away 19 in the 1/4s and 20 in the semis.

Cheers, yeah I've given something like 16, 6, 14, 19 and 12. Index 1 is our 17th, so giving someone two shots at such a crucial stage is a bit mad!

What's the deal with winning it and getting cut? Someone mentioned to me that the winner typically gets cut on review at the end of the season. Sounds a bit odd to me.

There used to be an automatic cut but it's not in place any more... think it was removed last year?
AFAIR there was no cut for 3 handicappers or below, 0.1 maybe for higher category 1's, 0.2 for cat2's... something like that anyway...
Counted for club matchplay, provincial finals or semis too...
Now it should be looked at in your end of year review but not a certain cut.

    singles---full difference
    4ball
    3/4 difference
4somes--- add up handicaps of players on same team, divide both by 2,and full difference

Full difference in singles. I remember a few years ago I was playing a match and giving 8 or 9 shots. 2 of our last 3 holes are indexed 1 and 3. I was 2 up with 3 to go, finished par par par and lost on 18th!!!!!
