Hey im just looking for peoples opinions on this. My girlfriend and i were getting along great and we loved each other to bits up until last weekend. One of her friends died and she's taken it very hard. I told her that I was there for her if she needed to talk but she said she didnt need to talk. Yesterday she text me to say that she thinks its best we break up!! im totally gutted. i knew that she would need her space but this is not what i expected at all. only last week she talking about my birthday, which isnt until the end of november, and saying that she knew what she was going to buy me. Im just wondering whether ye think its over for good or maybe she just needs a bit of time to herself?

    Hi Op,
Your gf has been through a harrowing experience, anybody that loses some one they love can relate to this. The grief and the pain of the loss is paramount to everything else in your life. In fact life itself is meaningless for a time. You are guilty for living when they can't. You relive each memory over and over...... and you blame yourself for every argument and why you were not there for them in the end/ how you could have stopped them from dying. To an outsider this is crazy when you are grieving it isn't.

She was speaking about future plans so she obviously had no mind to break up with you prior to this. When she said she didn't want to talk about it, it probably meant she couldn't. No one on this site can tell you if it's over between you or not.

Hang in there, be her support IF she contacts you but don't pressurise her. I feel for you ,this is an awful time for you but having been there i know her pain is more.
    Take care.

I agree, ease off and let her have her space and time to herself. I probably wouldn't contact her though if I was you for the moment. Just let her be and wait until she gets in touch with you.

If she wants to get in touch, she will. Until then, you'll just have to try and think about other stuff I'm afraid.
