File back up

I've an Inspiron 1720 about 18 months old.

It's been running a bit slow recently. I've a good few photos stored on it so I think I should store these else where.

Not too technologically minded so would appreciate advice on best way to do this, is a separate hard drive the best way to do this. I also have other files which I should back up too.

    Any tips appreciated.
    Thanks

Two of the simplest options would be :
    -Burn to a DVD/CD
    -Backup to a hard-drive

Backing up to DVD/CD is cheaper for small backups. You can go buy a box of blank DVDs for a few quid these days. And if your Inspiron is only 18months old im sure it'll have a DVD burner (if not it'll definitely have a CD burner).

Though if you're backing up hundreds of GB, a hard-drive is usually the better option.

You can get multi-Gb memory keys cheap nowadays. Very useful and less likely to fail than a DVD or standard hard disk.
