    Taken from Breaking News:
Australia have named former Leinster star Rocky Elsom as the team captain for their upcoming tour of Japan, the UK and Ireland.

The 26-year-old only recently return to his homeland after helping Leinster claim their first Heineken Cup title earlier this year.

    Good on him.

Was watching HC final highlights recently - Jesus, he was a savage. Leicester had no answer.

A new captain of an international team is always big news. This particular snippet has some affinity to Irish rugby supporters given the blazing year Rocky had when with Leinster branch.

    Pretty much.

Is he the new captain though? Will this be a temporary thing, or perhaps a carrot to keep him down in Australia. They desperately need him after all.

Stirling Mortlock isn't touring, but still not quite sure if this is a long-term appointment or simply till Mortlock returns.

Berrick Barnes was named as vice-captain, incredibly young for the role, 23 during the summer

The last 10 minutes against the AB's and the stupid wage row that scuppered the Trial Game really galvanised the direction Deans wants to take the team in.

Outside of their attributes as players both Rocky and Berrick stood up during that last ten minutes of that AB game and after they really ripped into the team, themselves and the collective attitude of the team.

In teh background Stirling has had one eye on playing in Japan and I think Deans could see the culture of the team being under threat.

He was building a great team and just as they produced that win over SA the bottom seemed to fall out of his plans. Too many distractions and no real core senior player to demand respect.

Delighted for Rocky. I think he is the right guy for the job. A real inspiration.

Makes me feel a whole lot better about the next few years build up to the world cup.

    . . . according to his agent.
You'd never guess a contract was nearing its conclusion, eh?
