Sekio Watch Repair

    Hi All

I have a Sekio Perpetual Calender Watch (Model STL081) that is in need of repair.

The Symptoms of the problem is that the second hand of the watch would stop for 5 seconds and then skip 5 seconds to keep the correct time until eventually it stopped all together.

-The battery was replaced in 04/08 and was also tested.
-The Glass Face of the watch was replaced in 07/08 (took 3 months!!) for it to return +50euro.

I initally brought my watch to my local Jeweller who sent it the their office in Cork who then sent it the the only listed Seiko service center in Dublin (I subsequenty found this out after I carried out a few inquirys). They returned a quote of 125euro to "overhaul" the watch.

I rang up the Seiko service center with the serial number of the watch to ask what the fault was...they couldnt tell me just fobbed me off with the story that they would overhaul it nothing specific. Does anyone know of any other service center? or will i have to send it abroad?

Hi there, did you try change the battery again? Generally the stopping for 5 secs and jumping 5 secs is an indicator that the battery is coming to end of life (EOL function). I know you said the battery was changed 04/08, but sometimes batteries can be crap.... Try the battery change before sending it off... later..

Ya the battery was tested and working ok, they changed it anyway to see if it would make any difference but it stayed the same. Apparently the second hand stopping for 5 seconds means that the watch has lost what year it is. so I think it is more serious.

Eventually found another place to send my watch for a repair they specialise in Seiko Kinetic and Perpetual Calendar movements.

    www.kinetic-repairs.co.uk

Im very happy with them so far. Sent the watch by registered post to the UK, they emailed me when they received the watch and also emailed me once they found out what was wrong with it (apparently the circuit is burnt out).

I was being charged 125 (By Seiko Service Center in Ireland) + 25 (local jewellers commission) compared to 83 GPB (92euro) for a complete overhaul of the watch. Circuit is another 55 thou. Im curious to know what the irish service center would charge for it. Im currently waiting as the part takes some time to arrive.

Pleased to say I got my watch back at the start of the week. There was a slight delay due to the weather in England. Would have been back sooner only for that. Very pleased with the service. Cleaned, overhauled and new circuit fitted to the watch had it back in about 4 weeks.

Compared to the offical Seiko Service Repair Center in Dublin who took 3months to replace the glass on the watch face!!

John the guy doing the repairs lets you know the status throughout.

Just sent my seiko to him with much the same issue. I got a quote of 165 for an overhaul and new glass from Seiko in Dublin, compared to 98 stg (109 euro) from John. They both have a 12 month Gaurentee as well.
    Good to hear youre happy!

Seven yoyos via registered post, insured for the max to uk (320). Can use track and trace on it as well - fairly cool...
Personal Guarantee I guess, doesnt bother me, its all the one to me to post to Dublin or UK!

Anyone know of any dealer in Ireland that specializes in Seiko Kinetic? I have a Kinetic Perpetual Premier watch that has been sitting in the box for three years and is not keeping up to time. It also has a relatively loud noise coming from the watch when you move it!!

I want to find out if the battery is gone and if that noise is normal.

    Hi lawman

Send Emily an email in she is the real deal and does a good job for a great price.

for my Seiko Actura Kenetic it cost me 110 euros for a new mechanism (it was buggered) and a new strap which has been working great.
