Moving to Melbourne - Moving Advice

    Hi there,

After over 6 months of trying with work, I finally got approval to transfer internally to Melbourne! Things are moving quite quickly and I may acutally need to be out there in 2-3 weeks.

I've seen a couple of older threads about with regards to air freight and shipping. Can anyone provide some feedback to as to companies they used that provided good/bad service? I have some valuables I am a little nervous about moving, particularly a nice guitar I picked up a few years ago.

I won't be moving a whole lot bar some clothes, kitesurfing gear (gear fits into a bag the size of a regular golf bag), my guitar and a box or two of other bits and pieces. I am hoping that I might air freight the lot given I don't have that much..

Any feedback/advice on moving tips would be great!

    Cheers,
    D.S.

    Hi D.S

Great to hear you're making the move and you'll be glad to know you have a few busy weeks ahead.

We used Seven Seas for our shipping needs and used the shipping option rather than air freight. It took just under 12 weeks for everything to arrive but it did and everything was in perfect condition too. I would recommend Seven Seas shipping to anyone getting quotes to send boxes over. We sent 6 boxes, 2 small suitcases & a golf bag (inc clubs), the price was around 400 quid! That included all the packaging, collection & delivery, and insurance.

The first box you ship will cost the most and you can choose what box sizes you like. I shipped my golf clubs for €9 which was well worth it. This was based on the box being 1500 x 120 x 120mm.They deliver boxes bubble wrap and even tape to get you going. They will collect then when you're ready to send.

They offer 2 box sizes, a book box and a tea chest. You can also send your own boxes too. Weight limit on each is 40kg.

If you need air freight get a price off them and see how they compare.

These sites offer online pricing guides:-

Let us know how ye go and good luck.

    Back again DS.

Have a look at this post from a guy who used moveplus, they seem pretty cheap too.

    You'll find that the site

is pretty invaluable also when it comes to getting advice and suburb profiling etc...

    Ciao,
