    Q: Rearrange the equation to make the unknown variable the subject.

    A = 2pie r h + 2 pie r squared. Find h if v=10, u=6, a=4.

    NB How do I get pie, squared, power of on the keyboard?

    Q: Give answers correct to 2 significant figures

    E = mc squared Find E if m=2.0 x 10 to the power of 5 if c= 3.0 x 10to the power of 8

    One final question about the square root.

    Q: x squared + 4 = 0

    I know there is no solution but I don't understand the square root of the +4 is not gotten straight away? Why is the 4 moved to the other side of the equal sign?

    Thanks if anyone has gotten this far!

    Have you tried re-arranging the equation? v, u and a don't figure in the equation given, is there more to this question than the part quoted above?

    [latex]A=2 \pi r h + 2 \pi r^2[/latex] Links to guides to latex in [thread=2055679780]this thread[/thread]. If you quote this post, you should be able to see how that equation is made.

    It's simply multiplication. If the issue is the notation: [latex]2 \times 10^5 = 200000.0[/latex]. How to multiply numbers expressed in scientific notation

    There is a solution; I assume you haven't covered complex numbers. What you are suggesting would give [latex]\sqrt{x^2 + 4} = 0[/latex] which is no easier to simplify.
