Invested in one of these recently.
Ideal for short trips. Lot handier than trailer for country lanes...
    Anyone else have one?

thats crazy, and it dosent even look that stable for that matter, what if you went a bit too fast over a bump and it snapped off ???

and its terrible on the dogs behalf, what if he needs to pee or something or have a poo, your going to let him sit in it ?

or even worse, what if there was an accident and someone crashed into you from behind ?

    animal cruelty :pac::pac::pac:

Come out of the fog robbie.:p
I said short trips. Generally less than a mile on roads not exceeding 25mph.
I've a fine sturdy trailer for longer journeys.

If he takes dump in the trailer he will be walkin in it too.

As for snapping, it would take 2 inch box iron bars to snap.
I must get the fatique point for box iron & work out the mass/weight required to snap.
Considerably more than the box & dog I would think...:confused:

Looks a good job, nice and sturdy. I built one myself a good while ago. If I cant be asred with hooking up the trailer or if I'm only bringing one or two dogs then I use this.

B-in-law uses one. Thinks they're great. He does long trips, no problems. It's the short ones at low speeds on country lanes that are the problem, the length of the box behind the towbar can allow it hit the ground on bumps/inclines. Frightens the bjay out of us when that happens, but never heard of one falling/breaking off. His dog still jumps in without any hesitation.

Lad after the 1st night i used it, once the door is open he's inside of it!
I have trained the "In" command so was easy but he knows been in it (or the trailer) means work & he needs no coaxing!

Nice box mallards, saw em at Birr. If i'd jeep i'd get one...

Yea so puttin a dog in a crate at night for 8 plus hours is ok but however, putting him in that for a short journey is animal cruelty? You'd want to be going some speed over a rough road wit a heavy dog to snap one of them. Good man.
Yea Epointer, i know a fella wit one of them and they seem very handy. At the mo i cant afford a trailer so himself has it cushy on a back seat:)

when you put a pet in your garden, he dosent have to stay in the box and if he does he should have some freedom within the box too

Yea, and how many people tow their garden?? If vets say crate training is ok how is what Epointer has animal cruelty? Simple question

you lost me on towing gardens there,

and vets have jeeps with big backs on them for safety rather than small boxes hanging off the back ?

Yea, good answer to my question there.
I asked a simple question without being smart.

No you said 'its crazy' and 'animal cruelty'. How is it animal cruelty if vets recommend to keep a dog in a small crate for 8 plus hours a night to house train them. Yet you think puttin a dog who wil jump into one of them trailers no problem for short journeys is 'animal cruelty'. Epointer has posted here a few times about his dog and seems a proud owner who would do nothing cruel to his dog. And dont tell me not to post here, iv been posting in this forum for a year which is a lot longer than you

ok i would like to point out, seen as everybody else got it, that i was joking when i said animal cruelty, thus the reason for the :pac:

all i did was state my opinion about the size and the fact it was on the back of the car which would make me worried about the animal if i was in the car or infact behind him.

Epointer i have never seen/spoken to or ever heard of, i am not here to judge him, i am sure he is a very respectful owner of his dog, even in the pics provided the dog actually looks happy.

when i said dont post here i was referring to you posting about me taking the thread off topic, you want to say something to me then do it with the PM feature.

and please go back on topic. if anybody has a problem with last 2-3 posts between me and Dusty, PM us or get mods.

    thanks

EDIT: this forum is shooting and hunting, maybe consider moving to animal forum for other types of animals to take advantage of this product ?

No worries lads the topic is up for discussion.

Cheers for the comments Dusty & i wouldn't but the dog in it if I didn't think it was safe.
The trailer I have has 2 compartments. 1 large one which you could fit a pile of dogs at the back & a smaller one to the front.
When on busier roads I use it & always put the dogs in the smaller one to the front so that there is a bit of a crumple zone if the worse were to happen. I have never used the back part for dogs.

I use the box generally where i go down boreens & you just cant turn it.
You usually end up unhitching dragging it around etc

Found it to be a great little yoke so far anyway...

I think it was 260 sterling. But then again its custom made and is the full size of the jeep. One off my best buys. It will last forever I can take it in or out by myself. If I'm taking the dogs for a run for twenty mins and I don't want the hassle of the trailer it's great. Or if I'm driving back to Tyrone up the motorway I can legally drive at 120km/hr which I couldn't with the trailer on, which I know now after paying the 80euro fine.:o

Good dicussion lads, If I had a choice based on my circumstances I'd say Mallards box is the only game in town as the trailer on the motorway is a no no. Now the question is do I go and get a box to fit my back seat in the saloon car or change the car for a van/jeep! i think Epointers box is a good compromise though and will do the job. Dusty you mentioned about the Dog in the back seat and I've seen loads of folks with the pooch in the car lately but as a friend pointed out to me, if your unfortunate enough to be in a smash (Hope none of us ever are) of any reasonable speed the dog "loose" in the rear seat he/she is cutains or at least severly injured and even worse could kill you flying around. "The dog without the seatbelt did the damage..." Sorry if I'm depressing anyone but just a thought!

iv have been using one like this for the past 3years (for 2 springer's) and i cant fault it, when we share the driving it will fit any car/jeep with a towbar, the dogs love it as soon as i open the garage door the dogs do laps of the garden trying to gettin,a far as it falling off/breaking as long as it is fitted properly this would be all most impossible,
much easier to maneuver in small lanes than a trailer a alot safer than having a unrestrained dog(s) running around the back of a vehicle

had a stainless steel one for a few yrs f..ked up rear suspension on car... then made myself a dog trailer and as someone said a feic of a thing on a country lane and tis almost the width of the jeep...ended up making a box for the boot just as mallards did... great job.
