For any setting out engineers, just a quick (possibly stupid) question,

Im starting setting out a job in the next week, the stations that are currently present are damaged and not reliable or either too close together to resection off, also haven't received any setting out info on a GENIO file although this is ment to come, but am afraid the job will start before I get my hands on it.

Question is, is it possible to set up total station off of two new stations and if so how do I co-ordinate them.If I could set up two stations I know how I set up a baseline and set everything off of this.

Its possible to set up a local grid, and reduce the setting out co-ords to a local grid and set it out. you just need to survey an existing building line as a point of reference.

    1 give first stn E of 1000 and N of 1000 and Z of 100
2 set up total station over 1000,1000 and shoot the prism over the next stn.
3 use a dumpy to transfer level from the first stn to 2nd.
4 set up over 2nd and sight back to first and use total station to check for error.

This basically sets the orientation of the stations. Add additional stations by using these 2 as the existing orientation.

Survey a building line/boundary, based on the local grid.

Plot local coords into autocad autocad,

Plot coords from genio file into autocad,

move and rotate genio coords to suit local grid and building line.

you can then ID points or run List command on a polyline to get new local co-ords.
