Iphone from America

HI guys,

My parents are going to NY next week and I was wondering if they bought an Iphone colud I unlock it and use my current meteor simcard? I don't know if all types can be unlocked or just the older models.

Where would I stand with future updates?
Is it hard?
How much do they cost?

Most iPhones shipping now come with 3.1 (currently unlockable). As far as I know, you cannot get an iPhone out of contract in the states.

Answers to these questions -
Where would I stand with future updates? - You wait until the DevTeam have their tools up to date to JB/unlock.

Is it hard? - No, there's loads of videos to be found by Googling. But don't do it if you're unsure.

How much do they cost? - They come down from iTunes and are free for iPhones, the big ones (3.0 etc) are charged to iPod Touch users.

Thanks Dave but my parents are going to NY soon so I'll get one no problem, I just don't want to get one here because I'm a student and have no money!
