    Hi,
I have been on a 3day week since june and have applyed for JSB. I have been signing and handing in yellow dockets to say what days of work i have done each week since.

I am going to be going on holidays for a week that i booked before i went on a 3day week, but i have a few qustions and i cant seem to get any proper answers from the social welfare office when i ring.

Q1. There is a holiday form for JSB but this has to do with missing your sign on date ( I dont sign on i just hand in dockets ) i dont think i have to fill out the form becuse of the above reason. Do I????

Q2. I usually work tues, wed, thurs each week and not unemployed my employer still has to pay for my holidays i have built up. It says on the back of the yellow docket to mark days that your payed 'HP' the days you get holiday pay. The qustion is does my employer pay holiday pay the days im working that week (3day wk) tues, wed, thurs and get JSB for monday and friday or is it HP for all the days?

Hope it makes some kinda sence. Im totaly confused.

    John.

the way i see it is you work a 3 day week so the only days you take holidays on are those 3 days. i mean if you went away on a Monday your boss wouldn't pay you would he? so personally i'd mark HP on those 3 days you usually work and are in reciept of holiday pay

if you have holidays built up your employer has to pay that full week.

Even though since june i have been working a 3day week?

Whatever the right way is i want to do it. But social welfare dont seem to know much when it comes to people on 3day week. If you were getting full JSB i know they just pay for the period your gone.

you will get more for that week by claiming your holiday entitlements from your employer than the 3 days you would receive from the dole, tell the dole your going to be away 4 that week and then go back 2 handing in your dockets.

Ya i know i would get my standard wk again. Im only going for 6days so i wont miss putting in my docket for eather week so i can just tell them using the docket. Just need to know what to put down.

I was hoping there was someone out there who had gone trough the same thing.

I would talk to your employer about your holiday pay. Are they willing to pay you holiday pay for the week or just for 3 days? It'll all depend on how many days they are paying you really. If they are paying you for the week, then still submit your docket before you go and mark all days with HP - and the weekend as not worked.

Wel i havent used any holidays and he is willing to give me holiday pay for any holidays i have built up. Im just hoping that it wont come back to bite me from the welfare side by doing it that way.

I don't know if this will be of much help to you but my situation is the same as yours. I work a 3 days week as well - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and I sign for the other days.
When it comes to holiday time - say if I wanted a week off - I would mark down HP (holiday pay) for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and I would mark the other days on my dole form with an X (not working).
In other words my employer pays me HP for the three days and the dole pay me for the remaining week.
In my opinion if you only work 3 days a week, then your employer would be entitled to pay you HP for these days. I don't know why they would pay for a full week when they never did before.
    Hope this helps.

Ya thats helps mate. Have you done this before?

I did this for 2 weeks in August. I just marked HP for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for each week and marked X for the rest of the days. I got my payment from my employer as usual, and I also got my cheque from the dole too. There's was no problem at all. The same thing happened at Easter and Christmas last year.

Fair enough i cant argue with that so.
One thing i thought was strange was that when i applyed for JSB they guy at the desk told me to fill in sat and sun with ''O'' rather then a ''X'' even though i dont work them days.

I asked him why but he just said '' it was the way the system works''.
I have yet to get any payment from the welfare. I hope it doesnt effect it.

If you don't work - even on a sunday - you should mark an X because you are not working that day.

By marking an X on the docket, you are saying you are not working that day and that you are available to work if you could.

So technically if you are on holiday, I would be a bit wary about marking the docket with the X - if your employer pays you a full week you would probably come out with more money so I would be inclined to go that route? But I am pretty unsure about it - when you were talking to Social Welfare were you talking to someone on your hatch? Surprising they couldn't tell you what to do. I am sure they have come up against it before.

If I was you, I would go to the dole as soon as you can to get this sorted as I think the reason you aren't getting any payment is because you have marked saturday and sunday with an O. I don't know why they would have told you this in the dole as to me this was very wrong. When I started filling out those forms, the girl in the dole told me to put an O on the days I was working and to put an X on the rest of them.
No wonder you aren't getting any payment. As far as I can see - when the dole get your docket, they probably just assume that you are working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. If this was really the case, then you wouldn't get paid anything.
I can't believe they would tell you to mark Saturday and Sunday as O.
Have you marked your dockets like this since June? If so, then definetly go down to see them and explain about the Saturday and Sunday, and if possible I would get a letter from your employer saying that you only work the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Wel i dont know why eather. I have being doing that since june.

I was worryed untill today when i got a call from the welfare office and he asked if i was still working a 3day and what days i work ect. ect. and he said he was sorting out my claim today. So he def knows im on a 3day and i work only Tues -> Thurs.
But before i could start asking qustions he hung up. Hence the post.Lol

But im yet to get payment so i dont know if i will be getting the right amount or not. There was never any answer to what money i would get.

If the dole know that you are only working the three days a week, then it should get sorted soon.

Wel they should do anyway. He didnt seem to think i was doing anything else then a 3day but i made sure he knew.
I guess i will just have to try and ring the offices again and see if i can get a propper answer. Otherwise i think im going to go down the road of what previous members have said they do.
