PS3 freezing when copying every 20 files - help?

I have a strange problem with my PS3. Everytime I copy files to it or from it, it freezes for a little bit after copying every 20 files and then continues copying normally and then after copying another 20 files, it freezes again, etc. It happens both with USB sticks and DVDs. I have the 80gb model. Can anyone help?
