I know about the porous block, i am looking to buy a 7610 and the seller is telling me that he has replaced the series 2 with a series 3 engine and i dont know if he is bull****ting. is there any simple way of telling the difference when i go to see the tractor..

There's no easy way to tell the difference between a series 2 and series 3 engine as they're the same thing, they'll have the model number 268 CID stamped on them. The famous Ford porous block wasn't solved until the powerstar engines in the 40 series tractors, but these can also be retro fitted any older tractors all the way back to the thousand series.
