It's a bit pie in the sky at the moment but if/when I sell the TDI Leon I have now I'm looking for something older, petrol, less practical and faster.

I'm thinking something euro and around the 1.8/2.0 mark. Trying to aviod Jap puely because of the image problem they have right now.

So, my considerations so far have been a 16v Mk2 Golf or a E36 318is.
Any others that might fit the bill?

Have some pics to liven up the thread:

The Golf's won't break land speed records but they are certainly great fun to drive.

A lower suspension and a couple of strut braces and it's great going in and out of corners

A Cosworth is definitely out of the question.

    1. I'm a young male, insurance is bad enough.
    2. A 2.3/2.5 engine will rape me on tax.
    3. They're far too rare and parts will be a bomb.
    4. I'm looking for something with 2/3 doors ideally, something that big would be a waste.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

Was gonna suggest a Corrado VR6 - but the engine is prob too big so how about a G60

if you go for the gti 16v make sure the heater is blowing really hot air,if not you are going to need to replace the heater matrix which is not fun

A fine bus they are too. I'm going to be in the market for something in around April and I'm thinking a VR6 or an EVO

Pug 306 GTI-6, argueably one of the best handling front wheel drive cars out there, Peugeot might have a bad rep but thier GTIs are completely different than the standard cars, real drivers cars.

how about a skoda octavia vrs 180 bhp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 Aha-shake

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the Corrado is a gorgeuous car but they seem a bit thin on the ground in this country but I'll definitely consider it.

Never even thought of an Octavia VRS, they would be reasonably priced too but are a bit big for what I'm after.

    Just spotted this, mega want!

    There's a minter '95 E36 M3 on Octane for less than that

Yeah I was wondering if it was a bit pricey alright, seems the tidiest looking one on the site at the minute though.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's a super looking car. Just 5grand could buy you a whole lot of 'older' car

drove golf mk2 wir 1 year. 1.8 sport suspention and a few ather bits... - worst car i have driven in mine life. Its just... Dull...

Bmw 318is, is not a fast car... Old Bmw will brake your hearth m8...

I know you said a jap cars is not your cup of tea, but what about subaru legacy? Fast car, and not that eye catchy.

I am not of fan of germans, but i have to admit... corrado VR6 or g60 is just pure sex ;)

I'd let mine go for less.
