Hi, so it's now the time when I should stop acting like a spoilt child and help support my family by trying to get a job.

My timetable for college is pretty dire (9-6) most days (but usually have an hour or 2 spaces in between) which means I cannot get a usual 9-6 job which I would have liked. I also go home (Waterford) at the weekends.

There are a few 24 hour places (McDonalds etc) nearby so I'm gonna try there.

Fast food, waiting, bar staff seem to be my options. Which I'm perfectly happy with doing.

    1) What do I say when I walk up to the counter?

Do I ask to speak to the manager and then ask him for a job? Or should I just speak to any employee?

    2)How can I get experience?
Most jobs I've looked into (waiting/bar staff) look for past experience. Where am I supposed to get past experience if this is my first proper job?

    3)CV?
Will I need to bring a CV into all the places I try? If I'm working in fast food/restaurant, is there anything I should put down for it to be more effective?

    Thanks!

Generally, just ask whoever's around if they're hiring. If they are, they'll point you in the direction of the manager or someone who can take your CV / give you an application form.

Start at the bottom - in a bar this means glass collecting / lounge service. In a club it could be cloakroom work etc.

Definitely bring a CV, plenty of advice on first CV's available on-line - Leaving Cert results, any work experience you have (paid or unpaid) even if it's 'just' babysitting. If you've genuinely never worked before find someone who'll say you did work for them before - an uncle/aunt with their own business etc.

What college course are you doing? Maybe you should try to get a relevant job to that?? Just that it would stand to you post qualifying....
