It would definitely have to be in the Top Five of comedy programmes, IMHO. (Can't see the number one comedy programme of all time ever being knocked off its perch...that programme being "Faulty Towers", of course).
One of the great features of "The Royle Family" was that it was done in "real time", a continuous unbroken half-hour of life in the household. And the guys responsible for creating the set must have had great fun picking the most ghastly wall-paper they could find, and assembling the clutter in the kitchen etc.
It was one of the few shows that I would go out of my way to watch. Haven't heard of any plans for a new series but it would be welcome if it were to make a come-back...

The last special where Denise is making Christmas Dinner was a travesty. The three series initially were absolutely top class. More than just a comedy.

Those who get it dont have to ask the question, i think.

The fact was that despite the scenario you describe was the setting, and it still managed to be funny as well as tender is the sign of superb writing and fantastic acting.

But if groups of sexy twenty/thirty something year old spouting a line of predictable gags, where there characters change week on week to match the punchline is what you like, then maybe its not for you.

I thought it was a dull repetitive show.A one trick pony that was flogged to death.Same as the awful 'Only fools...'
