Sure ye're sick of these threads lads but if ye could help out a newbie commuter, it'd be great.

Have the bike scheme at work and we have to go through the biketowork crowd. Ive been looking round and like both these bikes. I dont want anything for off-roading or racing, just commuting on main roads.

Is one much better than the other? They're the same price. Has anyone else seen anything better in this price range (or lower :)) )

I've the 2009 7.5 FX, not alot of difference between the 2009/2010 models but I haven't looked into it in too good a detail. Really enjoying it so far but you will feel every bump in the road, it's not far off a road bike in that regard so even if you wanted to pop off road now and again you wouldn't.

I dunno, the Trek looks nicer and also looks racier.

I've had a trek 7.2FX disc for the last 2 years as a commuter bike, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Great bike, fast, comfortable just need bar ends for longer spins.

The disc brakes are mighty in the damper Galway weather anyway.

Only issue is I've broken 2 rear spokes lately. Probably down to metal fatigue at this stage after 3,000 miles.

Those two bikes are virtually identical in every way so try them out and go for whichever one suits and fits you better.

I really can't imagine anyone coming down hard one way or the other unless they have a particular brand loyalty to Trek or Giant.

The only thing of any real significance is that the cranks are better on the Giant; they use a more modern interface with integrated crankarms and external bearings while the Trek uses an older style with seperate bottom bracket unit. Does this make any difference on a hybrid? Probably not a lot.

You may find you prefer the saddle on one or the other, or the general feel of the bike.

I had a Trek 7.3FX before and absolutely loved it (very fast for a hybrid and comfy too) so I'd say you wouldn't go far wrong with the Trek bike. I tried an old Giant FCR before and found it clunkier by comparison. The Giant CRS in that picture looks like it has similar geometry to the Trek though so there's probably not much difference in this particular case.

Do you know what bike shop you're buying from? If it's a case of buying the Trek from your local bike shop or buying the Giant online from the site you mentioned, I'd go with the Trek.

They're probably much of a muchness really. Go for whatever you like best after testing them out.
Personally, I had a CRS and loved it, I thought it was nicer than the 7.3FX Trek I tried at the time of buying. The Trek does look nicer though :D
Can't go wrong with either IMO.

+1 they are virtually identical so test ride and go with whichever you prefer.
