    Folks,

Messages are flying around about having to pay for the PSN soon enough. Does anyone know if its true or is this more bull started just for the fun of it?

Ignore. These "messages" have been flying around De Intranetz since PSN went live. It got especially bad about 2 or 3 months ago when PSN JP announced something totally unrelated to the rest of the PSN world.

Please, don't assist in scare mongering.

It's about as true as the PSN spam I get about a Modern Warfare 2 beta exclusive to PS3 that will be released if I pass the message on to 10 friends.

Doubt it would happen, it's a unique selling factor of the ps3.

I think psn charge developers for bandwith costs, it's quite a small amount though.

But then you'll have to send it onto 10 people. What if you don't have 10 email addresses to send it on to? You will be the only one in the world that will have to pay for PSN access!!!!!!!

You really should think things through, dude. I thought you were smarter than that.

Yeah, other businesses should try that business model.

"Tired of paying for delicious steak in a restaurant??"
"Then sit here on the kerb and we will feed you buckets of dog**** for free!!"

The Euro PSN is atrocious, trying to find anything on it is a chore, the PSP and PS3 PS1 classic lists dont match up (PSP has 45 games, PS3 has 43), the "PS3 games" section has all the content the "Add-ons" section does so why do we need the "Add-ons" tab?? And my friend told me a rumour of Sony clamping down on people buying in USA and Japanese PSN cards and locking their accounts (though Sony have probably been doing this since day 1).

If Sony introduced a fee to improve the service provided by the PSN I would pay in a heartbeat, plenty of PS1 games I want to play but either cant find them on eBay or they cost more than a new PS3 game.

    EU PSN pricing sucks!!

But in regards to releases, only thing you can blame is the publishers. Some old psone games are going to be a pain to be re-released in EU and some publishers just don't care about EU zones.

Take the fallout 3 expansions. Only UK & Ireland (maybe Holland) can download these i believe. You always see people from no english speaking countries complaining on EU blog.

What the hell are you guys talking about?

The OP is obviously talking about paying to play multi player games online, ala XBox live. How the hell did you think he was talking about the price of items on the PSN Store?

    Did you read the posts?

I did. What's your point? Your post doesn't relate to ANYTHING that the OP was talking about.

    Yes it does.

Gunmonkey is saying basically PSN as a whole is terrible due to lack of fees. If it had fees it would improve including layout and content.

I argued content is due to publishers.

but hey, backseat mod some more..

No it isn't. Gunmonkey rant was about PSX games and the lack of them on Euro PSN games. Thats nothing at all to do with charging for PSN, online gaming.

The reason there is a lack of PSX games on Euro PSN is due to licensing issues across the EU. Lots of PSX games had multiple publishers, licensees across the many countries in the PAL region.
First, Sony has to find out who currently is the licensee for that PSX game across all PAL territory, then get each of their permission to release the game, agree royalty terms with each, then submit and rate the game with PEGI.

I don't think so, Xbox Live Arcade isn't the easiest place to navigate and search for older titles. I think the EU PSN store has some pretty big issues, I read an article on Gamerbytes today about it that mention most of the things that I think need improvement. At least we have text search now.

    Mr Gates?

It certainly ain't perfect but the whole business of actually playing online for me works grand.

Xbox live is so far ahead of PSN it's not funny... I have both machines and I am more than happy to pay for xbox live because it works very well and I don't think it's difficult to find anything!

    :D
