This is the man who will be entitled to a severance package of €90,000 over the next to years while even though he is resigning he's waiting till tuesday to do so, so that he gets automaticaly re-elected if the greens call for a general election. Its people like this that have got this country in the mess its in.

It is an innovative way to get rid of the coinage in your pocket before boarding the plane back home - perhaps he should be the next minister for finance?

I going to say it as its been boiling up in me for a long time -

    HE'S A RIGHT C*NT!

It looks like he didn't personally claim it, he charged it to the tax payer.

Anyhow, 'stealth charity'/'opt out if you want to make yourself seem like a cunt charity' is a load of bollox and I fucking hate hotels that do this shit. Fúck them.

Claiming back £1 for a donation is tragic. An absolute disgrace of a man.

What fool stamped that saying it was ok aswell......

But Sterling is way down against the Euro since then so he'll only get about a euro and ten cents and it probably cost him 1.12 or 1.13 so the joke is on him!

The headline and the OP are both misleading, bordering on lies. The CC did not claimback any money - he simply didn't pay it himself. Not the same thing.
Not a fan of the CC by the way, but not a fan of scurrilous reporting either.

This is part of a hotel bill and seems a bit stupid for the independant to make so much of it

Yes its crap of him to claim it, but against the other expense or even the drink tabs on the bill it seems like bad reporting to make a headline out of it

Would you blame him if he has to survive on €90.00 for the next few years

I agree, and with all of the other massive inappropriate expenses he has stolen from the taxpayer I mean claimed back legitimately in compliance with the dept of finance guidelines this is a stupid one that will only lead to people feeling sorry for him due to the misleading reporting.
Who would have thought that the Indo was a trashy newspaper though, with poorly researched, sensationalist reporting?

Will John O'Donoghue get a golden handshake when he goes, along with pensions and all the other add on's these Ministers get??

Because he was CC he will essentially get a golden ****.

    O' yea - BIG time.

Mr O'Donoghue is expected to receive a severance package of up to €90,000 over the next two years. It would compensate him for dropping from a salary of €225,000, as Ceann Comhairle, to €100,000, as a TD...

This is on top of his pensions (1 for every 4 years served) as an ordinary TD, then the ones for Ceann Comhairle and any other office he was involved in.
Put it this way: He need NEVER worry about a paying an average bill in his life time.

O' and if (as he will) still stays on an an ordinary TD backbencher, he still gets €106,000 a year as well WITH NORMAL TD EXPENSES - still!

You're taking the p1ss, right? Who in their right mind would feel sorry for this guy just because the Indo (easily, imo, the crappest newspaper available) decided to make a headline out of part of the truth? The guy who is already up sh1t creek, with hundreds of thousands of wrongly claimed expenses. There must be sarcasm in there somewhere....

it's absolutely hilarious to me that nobody blew the whistle on him for so long.

i hate him, but to be honest to have gotten away with that for so long he's an absolute champion.

Is John O'Donoghue the same fella who's wife wrote a book about him being a terrible and cheap drunk. She had to wait till he passed out so she could sneak money out of his pockets to buy food, shoes etc for the kids. Or am I thinking of someone else?

You seemed to have missed the point I'm trying to make! The Guy is a scumbag who has lived a life of luxury at our expense, he has siphoned hundreds of thousands of euro out of our hard-earned taxes, yet the Indo pick an out of context example where the value at stake is £1

The sense of entitlement that the current members of the FF government have is disgusting. How can the public sector be expected to take any cuts heading their way lying down with this shower of thieving gangsters making the decisions.
Will Michael O'Leary please step in and run the place for 6 months.

I'm reeling at the thoughts of this over-fed spolit greedy gangster stepping out of a 225K pa job into a 106K pa as his punishment!

No there was a book written about five years ago about some politician and I was nearly sure it was him, this is annoying me now.

Aye - while a british ordinary MP yesterday got a 12 week suspended sentence for just wasting £150 on three meals!

Some difference - its fckuing disgusting to compare the two and see how we here treat such scumbags by still rewarding them!

No, I do understand, I just think it's going a bit far to say that people willfeel sorry for him.

The reason he will get away with it is because it is rife in Dail Eireann, they are all at it. He will be the first of many more to be caught out.
I found it interesting to see 1. how quite FF are about the whole thing, are they afraid some of them will be caught out themselves if they open their mouths ?? Dear old Enda missed the boat aswell and only jumped on the bandwagon after Eamonn Gilmore called for him to resign.

The way things are run in this country nothing our so called 'Leaders' do could suprise me. He steps down for basically fleecing us out of thousands and he is still going to get a huge pay off and everyone is going to just stand by and let it happen. We are all being made to look like fools because of a shower of gangsters!!!
