Iphone bought in Far East - any use?

I received an iphone recently as a gift. However, it was bought in Hong Kong. Plus, I'm with Vodafone.

Is it any good to me? Do I have to "jailbreak" it to get it to work? If so, will all the features work properly? Or should I wait until Vodafone get the iphone and try then?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Hong Kong iPhones are fully unlocked already, no unlocking or jailbreaking necessary.

put your vodafone SIM in and see what happens, if its locked, you'll have to jailbreak, if not, bob's your uncle..

Also, are you 100% certain it's an iPhone, not some cheap knock-off? There's been one or two threads on this forum about such models.

It's DEFINITELY a real iphone. In the proper box with all the accessories, paperwork and an Apple store receipt.

So, the best way to check is to just put my sim in and see what happens?
