Brisbane House/Apartment Rental

I'm moving up to Brisbane this weekend with 3 others to work and we're looking to rent a house or apartment for a 3 month period. Unfortunately we can't really afford to pay up a big bond straight away. Is there any way around this? We're looking at something for maybe 800 a week (200 each).

Cheers. (i'm checking myself but internet cafe eating up the money)

    800 dollars a week?

QLD seems to be fairly heavy on paperwork when it comes to renting - I just moved into a place in Brisbane with a few friends - our bonds went to an independent agency (RTA), and everywhere we looked was involved with them. Not sure how you'd go about it :(

I don't have anything specific, but one way to get around a large bond is to search Gumtree and the likes for Short Term / Share Accommodation. When myself and the missus arrived here first we ended up renting a room for a few weeks. Bond was 2 weeks, minimum stay was a month. Worked out well while we were finding our feet.

We're doing the same except the minimum stay is 3 months. Bit of a pain in the arse as it turns out I've only enough money for the next 5 weeks! Also, we're sleeping on mattresses on the floor, can't use the a/c, oven or grill and they won't give us a key for the building door. On the plus side the bills are included.

Finding a job is not proving to be easy either. It's the opposite to Ireland, they tend to only hire Australians.

    .

    Where are the negatives??? :D

Aye it can be tough starting out. From what I hear though it is getting (slightly) better on the jobs front every week.

Not too sure about the bonds but if you can afford 800 a week you'll easily afford bond. A 4 bed house near public transport (but a bit out of the city) should be less that $450 a week easy. Look in North Brisbane around Lutwyche (Good for buses if you're near the main road), Gaythorne (near train) and any other suburbs along the train line.
