...driving through Whitehall this evening I spotted what I thought was the aftermath of a crash - a cyclist lying on the ground and his bike on top of him. Thankfully this was not the case and the fella was just trying to deal with a minor mechanical issue. Chain had come off and was jammed between the cassette and the chain stay but was also caught under the screw holding the pannier rack in place. I had a phillips screwdriver in the taxi so problem solved.
Result - cyclist happy, taxi driver happy and world peace ensues.:)

ON the topic of people being nice to cyclist. I was passed by a bus heading out of town on the road from Hueston to Palmerstown yday. When I got to traffic lights the bus was there. Driver opened the door, said "howreya" and something like "was impressed by the speed you get up to on those bikes".
I guess not all bus and taxi drivers are evil genius type plotting the downfall of cyclists everywhere.

I didn't want to say it before Hermy but now you mention it I have noticed that flaw in your personality in previous posts. Kindness and consideration etc.Never mind though there's still time to get it right:D

Had a bus driver recently roll down the window at the lights and quiz me about the velibs, i.e. how do you pay for them? are they any use? etc.
