Any plans for a Gracie Barra gym in Dublin at some stage.

It seems all gyms in Dublin are MMA first and foremost. It would be cool to have a BJJ only gym in Dublin.

I don't think there is any plans for a Gracie Barra club in Dublin but no reason why not. However, I think those that are interested exclusively in BJJ have no problem finding good training with the BJJ revolution guys or the SBG gym. I think Defendu ireland's bjj program is purely BJJ in the gi with no submission wrestling or mma attached.

I think the standard of the BJJ in the clubs that teach MMA and BJJ is definitely as good as those that only teach BJJ.

i think there is a gracie barra club in dublin already. they call themselves team sapo and it's run by a brown belt i believe. there was a big loud gang of them at the dublin open on sunday. we've nothing to do with them as such but they definitely are part of garcie barra and are located in dublin.

even though i'm gracie barra myself i wouldn't be hung up on the gracie barra tag, they're a lot of good bjj teams in dublin at the moment. And other parts of the country for that matter.

Nope, we have no gi classes too and an MMA class for members.

Yeah OP I'd suggest you take a look at the timetables of SBG or BJJ Revolution to see just how many pure BJJ classes you can do... when I was at SBG I think there was a ratio of 4 or 5 bjj classes to 1 mma class, I think now that JK put in the new floor its something like 8 to 1? There's BJJ every night anyway. Revolution are similarly packed with BJJ classes.

I used to train at sbg but its difficult for me to get to, (need two buses) and I found it was too expensive.....college taking up most of my cash!

Is there any clubs in south dublin around the D14, D16 area? even D6?

    Thanks guys.

if a Gracie Barra opened up beside sbg would you then take 2 buses there?

These lads also train in RAW gym, Portobello three times a week. That isn't too far from UCD.

the mma club primarily does no-gi (submission wrestling) but you can bring your gi down and I'll wear mine if you want. what level are you at? Training in submission wrestling is far more useful than not training if you want to get good at BJJ. I don't think there are any Gi based classes nearer.

Hi. I help run the club out in ucd. We work on no-gi bjj mainly but a couple of us occasionally train in the gi. In the past we have only trained mma when the league approaches. We are looking to get another training session to focus just on mma. But for now the tuesday and thursday sessions are just bjj. PM me if you want more info.

more a brazilian thing than anything, it's the usual carry on by most teams at competitions in brazil which is grand over there. here it was away over the top.
