There will no doubt be a lot more stores discounting the PS3 Fat in the coming weeks and months, as the slim is what everyone will be wanting to buy instead.

Its good alright. A few weeks ago powercity had the slim with 10% off and it was €252.

I might hang on for a deal like that. I wanted the bigger HD, and also the power savings. I am not sure the average savings due to the powersavings over the life of the thing.

I remember working it out on another electronic thing which was ~€30 more than another one, and it paid off the €30 in about 2-3 years of my own typical usage (which was high)

Nice one. I already have a PS3 but I'll let my buddies know.
I preffer the fat ps3 to the thin one. I don't carry miine around much anyhow.

Don't think the thin one has backwards compatibility.

You're right, it doesn't have PS2 backwards compatibility.

amazon do the slim for £245 (€270) with free hdmi cable and 1 game from a selection (fifa 10, wet, n4s shift, up, wolfenstein, heroes over europe, transformers revenge of the fallen)

Yes, it think it can do PS1 though

Yes, but are you inferring that the fat 80GB one can play PS2? I thought it couldn't and thought the main difference was the slim had no linux, the fat one does, and the slim is lower power.

some earlier fat ones had 4 usb ports, some seemed to have some sort of PS2 emulation. But the one on sale is 80GB. and from wikipedia.
Like the South Korean and European models, the North American 80 GB model also excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip.[94] However, it still keeps the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU.[99] Due to the elimination of the "Emotion Engine", the level of compatibility was reduced.[94] The 40 GB, 80 GB (2008), and 160 GB models have two USB ports instead of the four USB ports on other models, and do not include multiple flash card readers, SACD support [100], or any backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 games.[18][94] This was due to the removal of "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU, which stripped the units of all PlayStation 2 based hardware

Cheers, I had seen a few sites with good deals but none shipped here. I also read amazon are doing free delivery over £25 to ireland, so that might be the best deal, and a better choice of games for me. In my job we trade a lot with the UK, I heard accountants saying sterling could go to 96p by christmas.

You're right. All versions of the PS3 have PSOne backwards compatibility through software.

Might be one of the few times it's worthwhile getting an extended warranty. ;)

I tried linux on the ps3 b4 and it was crap. Could just about handle firefox. They have limited it to pentium 1 levels

That would be fine for me, all I want is arcade shinobi on mame, dunno if it is possible though. Its the only thing that would steer me towards the fat one.

I was just wondering, exactly what disc format is included with this offer, as the OP makes reference to both DVD and Blu-ray? Also, which Terminator movie is it?

Does anybody know which PS3 version has the PS2 backwards compatibilty? don't mind storage as i have 2 external hard drives but would need PS2 backward compatibilty
    Thanks

rubadub, amazon also have the 250gb ps3 for €330 with infamous and 2 others games (same selection as with 120gb), so you'd be getting double size hard drive and two extra games for €50 odd
