Hi all, I couldn't see anything here on Ollie Moran's retirement from inter-county hurling. For someone who is a true gent & was a great servant to Limerick hurling, through some good times & plenty of lows, I think that there must be plenty of Limerick GAA fans out there who'd like to say "thanks". Hence starting this thread. Fair play to you Ollie, you are a shining example to all aspiring hurlers in terms of training, attitude & how to play the game.

Was a respected guy on and off the pitch.
Very sad to see him leaving but no-one can keep playing inter-county forever, i guess.
Another great hurler to add to the list of not ever winning a munster/all-ireland medal.

    Nice thread :).

Agree well done Ollie , fair play to him he always gave 100% when he pulled on the green jersey - great attitude

Yeah, someone who'll be known more for his commitment rather than his skill, but still a great stalwart for Limerick hurling down the years.

His finest hour was his year 2007. He destroyed Benny Dunne in the first match against Tipp and then even though he wasn't in the replay for most of the game he dragged us out of an almighty mess.
Never gave up against Kilkenny and got a super goal to raise a bit of fight.

Will be sad to see him leave. Left everything on the pitch. A sad indictment on Limerick hurling that he won no Munster championship

My dad was only telling me a bout one time he remember Limerick, Waterford palying each other. It does sound bad at the start but if you read into it I'll show my point.

The game was about 10mins in or so and Ollie Moran was marking Ken McGrath, the ball had just been cleaned and was over at the other side. Then while it was at the otehr side Ollie broke the hurley in half over kens head and Ken staggerd a couple steps and just looked at him(he wasnt cut, i dont think), left it at that. Later on into the game Ken pulled and cut Ollies head, he had to be cleaned up abit but once he was up they jst looked at each otehr started hurling away. Then at the end of the match they were shaking hands and were chatting away to each other. Two greats of their countys.

I just think its really nice that they accpeted what they gave they were going to get back but after the match you caould all talk away. Think it says alot about what type of people they are :)

Sorry cant say many more details or when it was, my dad had told me I wasnt there to witness myself :)

Was going to start up a thread but was beaten to it. A really nice guy, have had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times. Very unassuming and just got on with it. For me, 2001 was his best year, he single handedly dragged Limerick back from the dead against Waterford in PUC. He was a natural half back who was converted into an old fashioned centre forward. Certainly our best forward of this decade and one of the better CFs in the country. Well done Ollie and thanks for 13 years of committment.

A very fine player and one those players that gave a 100% to the cause, sometimes a lost one on occassions.

Limerick hurling is worse without him

Yes, Ollie is one of the greats. He is an example of everything great about hurling. Great Spirit, Skill, intensity, Honesty & humility...

For club and county he never left anything on the field. He owes them nothing.. He broke our hearts in 2007 ( Tipp that is ), and was the pulse behind Limerick getting to the All Ireland that year.
