    Hi everyone,

Myself and my boyfriend were hoping to get away for christmas this year...somewhere cheap!!! I was thinking of cairo, egypt as we're both fairly active and would like to see/do things on the holiday can anyone recommend a cheap way to do this....eg cheap accomodation, tours of the pyramids etc??? Or any advice on traveling to cairo would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Cairo is not a nice place. I would recommend going to Luxor or Sharm el Sheikh and then going to Cairo to see the sights on a day-trip.

    Seconded.
Worked in Cairo for 3 months and it's not a nice city....dirty, hot, smelly, manic (and I was working in the posh financial area of Cairo) !

Cairo has a massive pollution problem and is manic, but it is not hot at Christmas, so that is a good time to go. Depending on your persepective on holidaymaking, it can be interesting for a couple of days, if only to see such a place. But not perhaps if you want to lie around on holiday. Luxor is much more relaxing, if you ignore the touts and Aswan even more so. I was there at the New Year and Aswan had sun and 28C then. You can get trains between these places if you want to do your own thing or there are tours. This is peak season there and prices fall off quite a bit away from the 25/12 - 01/01 period. Do take a river tour on the Nile from Luxor, even a day trip is worth it.

    Thanks everyone.
Not sure if funds will allow it now but fingers crossed we might pull it off!
