Rent allowance question

Hello all, looking for some advice.

I own a property which is not completed, I cant afford to finish it out which means I cant move in. I also can no longer afford to pay the mortgage so I have decided to put the property on the market.

I am staying between friends and family but at this stage I have over stayed my welcome and I am too old to be at home.

I am currently on job seekers allowance, given my situation would I be entitled to rent allowance?

If so any advice on how to make a claim?

This is all new to me, its the first time I have ever been out of work so I am a bit lost about entitlements.

    Many thanks.

You must go on the local authority housing list in order to qualify.

Your capital over 5000 euro (the unfinished house and land) will be assessed against your claim for rent allowance.

If you read this, it's a good start on what you need to know:

Thanks for your help, I called into the citizens information center and as I guessed it was fairly busy. I feel its best to do as much as I can myself first.

I understand now that I have to be on the housing list first and I've had a look over the Housing Application form.

Would it be OK to download the relevant pages and fill them out, then return them to my local Co Council myself?

    Thanks again.

I just rang my Co Council and they are sending out the form.

You have to be in the rented accomodation for 6 months before you are entitled to rent allowance..
