What to ask the dealer?

I'm hoping to buy a car - 18 months old and have got a reasonable price with trade in on my own.

So I have to call back the dealer today. Thing is I'm a complete idiot when it comes to cars - and I'm wondering what I need to ask about e.g. warranties (dealers/manufacturers), car history - do I need to get the reg and do one of those searches (which one?) - anything else?

Oh and by the way does the fact that I live in Dublin and the reg will be MH make any difference to the value fo the car? or is that just a very silly question (well I know colour matters).

First of all ask the dealer about what is the story with the warranty. As the car is 18 months old it should have at least 6 months of the orginal manufacturer's warranty remaining on it. On such a new car from a main dealer I would expect them to offer an additional 6 months used car warranty with it but find out for sure if they do and what exactly is covered if they do as there are huge differences between both. Also get the terms of the used warranty in writing as verbal agreements can be worth nothing when it actually comes to getting things fixed down the road.

However if the car originally came with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty from new then there should be 18 months left on it so the dealer doesn't need to offer one.

Regarding the reg, I'm not really bothered what number or county is on a car's reg as it's only an identification number to me but it can make a difference to alot of people so it will have an impact on resale value if selling it on in the likes of Dublin, etc.
