Anyone know if there's a way (by firefox extension?) to download files of webcourses?

I can view the lecturers slideshows but he wont let anyone download them. Rather than taking loads of screen shots, is there a way to download them?

what if you go File >> Save page as...

that may save the .pdf / .ppt file that the lecturer put up. webcourses is a pain in the but, there should be a clear "download here" button.

    Won't work. I think it's embedded (java).

The lecturer won't allow downloads so there's no pop-up or option to save what your viewing.

Can't highlight anything on the page so that won't work either.

Every click you do moves to the next slide

Give a shot at addressing your concerns of usability to your Lecturer.

Maybe then, they will decide to put up a simple set of static html page to ease
problems. Alot of Lecturers in the school of computing do this.

Beats the hell out of relying on a system that is frequently slow, down for
maintenance when you least expect, or harassing the user with silly popups.

He won't make them downloadable because he wants us to sit go over them and read them, take notes etc before he takes them down a week later. He's affraid that if he puts lectures up to download no one will show up for his lectures.

The whole class is annoyed at it cause no one wants to go through 15 lectures to take notes, come exam time they wont be accessible anymore and generally it's to uch effort to write everything down

Not to mention the fact they feel the need to reboot the webcourses server every night:rolleyes::rolleyes:

PICS please. I've no idea what you're talking about. Alternatively pm me your number and birthday and I'll take a look myself.

Clicking the slide makes it move to the next one.

Can't print anything either. Only way so far to have them is screenshots, loads of screenshots...

the good part is you're already using firefox. Now try right click and save the link from the right in firefox. Or try right click the page and save the page as (full web page in options at the bottom of the save box)

Right clicking and saving as won't work, saving the whole webpage doesn't work either.I'vetried a few different extensions in firefox but didn't get anywhere with them, or couldn't use them.

Our year head is working on getting the lectures made available to us as powerpoint files

Hi Jozi - I know this is not answering your question but seriously - You're in college - You're meant to go to the lectures. We put these notes up as an aid to lectures. Most of us don't read the notes word for word in class - we discuss them and other ideas and the students usually make their own notes on the discussion and any further explanations. Otherwise we could just video a lecture one time and use it for years.

I put all of my course notes up on webcourses and if I thought for one second that students would stop coming to lectures they would be removed immediately. We'd be back to overheads and everybody writing non stop. Putting notes on webcourses means you can cover more material or discuss in greater detail. Students who don't want to got to 15 lectures or think its too much effort to write everything down need to cop on. What will they do when they get a lecturer who doesn't go to that much effort.

Anyway - perhaps your lecturer could be persuaded to release the lectures again for a few weeks around exam time.

    Good luck with your studies.

then again it really is up to the student how they do the course. If they work best by downloading the notes and going through them themselves then i don't see why it can't be facilitated to be that way.

I can see where your coming from and agree that we shouldn't be relying on webcourses for notes.

I always try to attend lectures and have done so for the 3 previous years. Sometimes notes don't make any sense after 3 months and it's handy to be able to look at the lecture notes when you have to.

He told us not to take notes at the start of the year which means we either need to remember or use webcourses.
