Guys, when buying a new motorbike, is there such a thing as a VRT receipt? Is VRT payable on a bike?

I'm familar with the process involving cars, but this is the first bike we've put on fleet, and I'm unsure as to how it works.

    Any help would be great.

its exactly the same as a car except the vrt bill will probably be a lot less.

VRT is payable by cc, €2 per cc up to 350, €1 per cc thereafter. You need birth cert details (from the seller/distributor) and register with the vro in the same way as you do a car.

If its new you'll have to pay VAT too....assuming its an import..

Just to go into a little bit more detail here:

You will have to pay VRT (nothing you can do about that) AND VAT IF:

Bike is less than 6 months old

    OR

Bike has less than 6,000km on the clock

Ay, same terms as a car if its imported. This one wasnt imported, it was bought direct from Honda in Ballymount.

So why ask about VRT if it was bought in the Republic?

Unless you have a tan number, Honda shouldnt be letting it out the door without registering it for you first.

Course I can. All I require is your first born daughter, 10 grand, and the deeds to your home. ;):pac:

Our accounts department needs a VRT receipt for an audit, but we never got one from Honda. I just wasnt sure what way it worked with bikes.

BTW, we do have a TAN number, I work for a fleet management company.

If honda vrt'd it, they will have the actual receipt, and can either give you a copy, or a vrt breakdown on the vehicle invoice. Ask em.
