Ankle Sprain

Had a pretty bad sprain 4 weeks ago in TKD and was wondering how long these things usually take to heal. Want to get back into training as soon as possible and although I can now walk on my foot again it's still pretty sore and is a little swollen around the ankle. Would it be better to leave it for another few weeks or would I risk further damage if I went back now.

I feel like I'm losing all the flexibility I had so it's driving me nuts that I cant do any training. Is it true that once you sprain you ankle it's never really the same again?

I play soccer, and have never done martial arts, but the leg injuries are similar.

I've had pretty bad sprains / twists to both of my ankles over the years, and you really have to build the strength back up in your ankle before considering training heavily agin, or you'll risk doing further damage.

Sprains / ligament & tendon damage can often take even longer to heal than a break.

You should wear a good support on your ankle for a while, until the pain from walking pretty much goes away - I spotted Lidl are selling what look like very good supports for only €5.

You may need a bit of physio - and a 'wobble' board is a must for building the strength and getting the flexibility back in the ankle.

Best of luck, but please do not rush it, you risk doing more damage.

And I've never heard of that, once its sprained its never the same again - though I must admit my ankles are only about 80% of what they were a couple of years ago, and I tend to go over easier on them now.

You need to see a doctor about that unfortunately. People on here can't give you any medical advice and I have to lock this thread. I can say that a sprained ankle can definitely fully heal, depending on the severity of the strain.
