Working in a small firm, there over 5 years, fully quailified a year, but there is no career progression and im sick of it at this stage. one partner and one manager so cant go any higher. just feel bored and stale. on the upside its comfortable and well paid, just over €40k, easy hours etc.

not sure thats enough anymore. want to go somewhere i ll be given more responsibility, career progression etc. need a new challenge.anyway just wondering if people have any advice/hints etc. in particular

    1. Am i mad to leave now? in a way i know i am but other side of me says the economy wont be hugely better in a year and i ll still be in the same situation. why not bite the bullet now

    2. i see a good few jobs advertised on recruitment sites, do these really exist? have read some old threads on 'fake' jobs.

    3. also how do i stop these recruitment companys contacting me night and day? esp when in work. insist on e mail only contact.

any other advice or thoughts appreciated. as this is a big decision and i want to see all the sides and know of other peoples experience.

My advice is, do up your CV and fire it off for a few of those jobs. Sure you have nothing to lose. If you get another job, then you can hand in your notice. In the meantime, you can work away at your present job.

I do know that jobs for accounts are scarce enough at the moment. That said though, a friend of mine did manage to move a few months ago, so they are out there.

thanks, kind of along the lines of what i was thinking. seems like there are few jobs on the recruitment sites but i just wonder if they are really there.

also worried that if i start teh process i ll have recruitment agencies ringing me night and day including in work.

    Thanks tho

A lot of jobs on the recruitment web sites are merely CV grabbers. As for the recruitment companies annoying you? I doubt it. A friend of mine can't get a all back from any of them. It makes me wonder what they're actually doing these days.

    Tony is right.

If you head over to the jobs board, you will see threads where they do this. It's basicallly them bending the rules. They might get a posting for a job or two, yet they advertise as if there are plenty and then people fire in the CV's and don't hear back and can't explain it.

why cv grab if they have no intention of calling you back? i thought it would be the opposite - i.e they d put you forward for everything even stuff you d no interest in.

Most people who work in recruitment know a friend who is out of work and they get pushed forward ahead of randomers.

It's like the whole 6 degrees of seperation theory.

I don't get it either. I suppose if they've got gazillions of email addresses they can show potential employers what a great database they've got and the large number of "candidates" that fit the bill, they can hopefully win the contract. That's all I can think of.
