NBS / Three - Is it all Bad?

I suspect the answer I'll get is a resounding - 'YES'

I'm currently building in a Black Hole in Wicklow where your only option is Dialup or pay through the nose for satellite. So NBS has switched on in the area a couple of weeks ago and two of the inlaws have tried it out and have been very impressed. I've no download figures or nightmare connection stories yet, they've both been quite happy with the service. One of them has been paying a small fortune for Satellite for the last 2 years and can't believe the difference (In a positive way!)

If I believe the rest of the threads I read I suspect by the time my house is built our node will be oversubscribed and rubbish 3 service will resume as seems to be the norm.

Has anyone any positive experience with NBS / Three in rural areas or am I destined to be joining the hoards e-mailing Eamo, Comreg et al sometime soon?

If you are served by a mast that only has a few subscribers, and are close to the mast , it should beat satellite . Hassling Ryan may get extra sectors onto the mast while the NBS is under way . Once the NBS is paid for ( c.late 2010) nobody will upgrade anything.

If you are far from a heavily subscribed mast then you are in trouble.

You could get the pay as you go option and use it away. If it does go bad then you can change easily

My bro got the 2-way sat setup, it's ok. No new mast was setup in the area, newtownshandrum co. Cork.

Reasonable speeds can be got outdoors with line of sight to the mast but unfortunately not indoors.

A friends mum got sat setup in same area, what is the % of sat setups Three are allowed install?
