City Centre speed limit

Average speed wouldn't be anywhere near that anyway really. But I can see it as a good thing with such a high concentration of pedestrians. They'll make a small fortune with speeding offences though:D

You can just imagine the speed traps. :D

In fairness, there are some parts where you can do 50kmh, but not many. Most of the time you're crawling between 1st and 2nd gear.

I don't think it's a bad thing really, but, can you actually see drivers sticking to those speeds outside of busy hours?? 4am going through town at 30kmh??

    Should be 7.00-19.00 30km
    19.00-7.00 50km or similar

Dublin city, the capital. :D It's stated clearly in the article linked.

I see that there's a new speed limit of 30kmh coming in for the city centre.

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/capital-on-go-slow-as-30kmh-speed-limit-is-agreed-1904974.html

That should make things interesting, and a lot slower.

I wonder if any of these councellors have ever tried to drive at 30kmh, it is too slow.
The new limit has been introduced in an attempt to cut the number of road deaths in the capital.
Does anyone have any further info on this? Any deaths I ever hear about in city centre are cyclists being crushed by trucks.

That's a crazy thing to say. How do you manage to drive past schools or in rush hour traffic?

Well link says "Capital on 'go slow' as 30kmh speed limit is agreed" so I assume they mean Cork ;)
Joking aside, Dublin city centre is pretty slow anyway. Will this really make a big difference?

the absolute dickwads who drive up and down patrick st. from about 8 at night need to be shot.

I would prefer to see safer cycle lanes and pedestrian under/overpasses tbh.
