Hey,Im not sure if this is the right place for it.I know there is a chance that it is better suited to the leaving cert forum but it is a bit of a personal issue at the same time.I was thinking of maybe repeating the leaving cert.I'm in first year arts and just amn't sure how valuable a degree that will be...Does anyone have advice? In your opinion is an arts degree worth anything or should I repeat the year??
    Thanks

Really it depends on what your studying, and an Arts degree is definitely worth more than nothing.

But The Leaving Cert or College forum will give you a much better answer than I.

What do you want to study in college? Is it the course you're already in? Is it something you missed out on because of points?

If what you're doing now is what you want to do and what you enjoy doing, stick with it. If you switch to something "more valuable" but less enjoyable, you won't do as well. You'll do best in the area you're most interested in.

If it's NOT what you want to do, absolutely, go back and repeat. I'm sure you could register now for a repeat college of some sort and just jump in now and spend the year revising.

Do you enjoy the course? What area would you like to work in when you're older?

If you enjoy the subjects you're studying personally I'd stick with the course. Myself and my friends all did arts degrees. Some of us have gone into law, others are trained teachers and a few more are doing graduate medicine. The range of stuff you can do with an arts degree is huge. I wouldn't take too much notice of people who (jokingly) say that arts grads are dossers. If you enjoy it it's as good as any degree.

If you don't enjoy your degree:
What do you think you'd be better suited too?
Have you talked with friends and family about it?
There's no shame in having to repeat the leaving cert. One year is a drop in the ocean when you look at the bigger picture.

Whatever you decide I wish you the very best of luck with it. I hope it works out.
