The are 4 bases in total,
    Shannon : Rescue 115
    Dublin : Rescue 116
    Waterford : Rescue 117
    Sligo : Rescue 118

The one in Dublin uses the old IONA hangar near the control tower, in Sligo you pass it as you enter the airport, can't miss it. Sligo has probably the best view of all the hangars.

Daa won't left them build a permanent structure in Dublin, even though the lads are there years,it means having to fly down to Waterford of any big maintenance work, maybe when the contract is up for tender in 2012,they'll finally agree to build a permanent one

here's waterford,it's the big hangar on the far left!
can hold 2 s-61's with the blades open,3 with blades folded

    Is this for REAL ????

What sort of short-sighted nonsense is this ?

No wonder the bloody country is going to hell in a basket when dodgy semi-civil servants can impose this level of small minded restriction on what should be a core part of an Island Nations Coastal Protection.

    "Won`t let them"......Jeebus..the mind boggles !!

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Yep at the moment they use portacabins and the hangar is really
just a tent! It's been this way for 10ish years!

When the CHC contract is up what's going to happen to the SAR service and to the S61s

mostly likely it will be awarded to them again, but with a new fleet
considering the 139 has been a bit of a disaster in the uk i'd imagine we'll get s-92's in all four bases

with CHC covering all of the UK & Ireland with the same choppers in action at every base it should streamline spares supply and training and minimise the amount of time bases go off-line
