I'm in a panic. NCT tomorrow, I know very little about cars, and just checked the checklist - I need to have a Vehicle Registration Book, Registration Certificate or Licencing Certificate with me. Can't find any of these.

I bought the car 2nd hand 2 years ago in a garage, it's a 2001 car, and I thought I had all the paperwork. I have my annual tax and insurance disks, and have found a SIMI standard form purchase contract in the glove compartment along with the manual, but can't find anything that says Vehicle Registration Book, Registration Certificate or Licencing Certificate.

I don't know if I ever had any of these. What do they look like? I've tried google images and can't find a copy. Would the garage have given them to me when they sold me the car?

Log book...but they probably wont even wanna see it. Bring it just in case

Log book is a piece of paper, folded in half. Inside it'll have the engine size, reg, when it was first registered etc.

Thanks for advice. They only needed the letter confirming the appointment and the cold hard cash - despite the letter saying you had to have this log book or certificate.

Still failed, but happy since its only a few little things that'll be cheap to fix. Thanks.

NCT person is supposed to use the log book to check the number plate against the chassis number to prevent someone using a neighbours identical car with the number plate transferred over for the test. Highly illegal but it's been tried before. You should have received the log book in the post from dept of environment in shannon a few weeks after buying the car from the dealer.
